Which portion of Glidden or Lincoln stretch are we talking about?

Agree. Just looks run down and is an eye sore when coming into the campus area on Annie Glidden. I'm sure the renovation of the Lukalos bldg will make it look better and since Pizza Pros moved in over there, that looks much better.

I am surprised NIU hasn't offered some money for the building/land where the movie store was. They could demo it and use it for on campus parking and expand the gameday lot there as well.

Cybes...the Patio is awesome. Great BBQ food.

Definitely. Lincoln Tower is a dump and the motel that isn't even nice enough to be called a Travelodge anymore is even worse.

BTW: While recently at the Patio Grill ( family owned chain mostly located in south/ southwest burbs) it offers an ideal, reasonable, tasty fast food menu but maybe more suited between DeKalb and Sycamore than near to NIU.

Applebees announced in April the closing of 8 in chgoland but dekalb not on that short list but more are possibly to close. According to Tribune report casual diners are looking for more fast foods with a trendy menu.

....Lombard Patio Grill has a beer and wine bar.04-cheers

I also think Buono Beef is as good as it gets. You would think since the family's son played baseball for NIU, DeKalb location may have been worth considering for a good Italian Beef stand. I cannot think of one such speciality fast food italian beef drive up/sit restaurant in the area...

Portillo's?

Portillo's out by Menards and Buono Beef are both the best around. We are spoiled.

Buona Beef > Portillo's. The quality of the Portillo's Italian Beef goes down later in the day.

Also a big fan of Portillo's. There's one more new place on Sycamore Road by the HyVee called Carmine's. The owners are really nice and said they want to get involved with NIU. Their claim is that they have a true Philly Cheesteak sandwich and "east coast subs." I'm not positive what that distinction means, but I tried their Cheesesteak and it wasn't bad. Planning to go back but just wondering if anyone else has tried it, liked it, or hated it?

There's no good Italian beef places where I love so you all better shut your mouth and be grateful for your Italian beef

Come up for homecoming next year. The Engineering tent serves FREE Italian beefs at the Alumni Village(Almost as good as Portillo's). Best kept secret for homecoming.

Careful where you love. Come on down to Sarasota, we have at least 3 good Italian Beef places and even more Chicago Dog joints. There's only one good Chicago thin crust pizza place though, owned by former MLB pitcher Shane Rawley.

Is that the pizza with the crust made out of saltine crackers(or at least tastes like saltine crackers)? I can't stand that crust.

The beef is good but the having rolls for bread is not right.

Hotel being built is 4 stories and looks like it will be ready for the fall.

Anybody know if it'll be open by Homecoming. Might come in handy with the 4pm kick-off.....04-cheers
( FWIW...location doesn't come up for online reservation.)
