Comparing CAA vs A-10 conference schedule strength

It is no surprise to fans that next year’s conference schedule will be much tougher for George Mason in the Atlantic 10 than it was in the CAA. Which could be a cause of concern considering the Patriots were a fifth place team in what was a major down year for the CAA. But how much tougher will the A-10 schedule be for George Mason? I broke down the home and away games slated for next year within the conference and compared the team’s final RPI numbers from the 2012-2013 season. The difference, as I’m sure most of you could have assumed, is huge: http://gmuhoops.co/2013/06/13/comparing-...-strength/

Realistically, George Mason can win between 7-9 games in the A-10 next season. That could be good enough for 4th or 5th place in the standings considering Xavier, Butler, and Temple are gone. Road games at La Salle, VCU, Saint Louis, and UMass will be critical in determining where they finish. But to even win that many games within the conference Mason will have to play a lot better than last year.
