RE: ECU Hoops honored at the NC Senate
Recruits speak out on ECU going to the AAC after the move.....

Quote:"Oh yea coach told me yesterday about the big move! I told him that was a big time transition for the pirates! It will be different with a lot harder competition but the pirates will make some noise!" ....'14 F Gary Clark

"That's great ECU is going to the Big East. This shows you that Coach Lebo and his staff know what they are doing."'.....'14 SG James Demery

"I think it is great for the university and will bring in a lot more publicity to athletics." ...'14 F Stavian Allen

Don't think top recruits like Demery didn't notice. Memphis, UConn, Cincy, Temple and 3 or 4 other teams all signing top 150 players left and right. This is certainly going to be a high profile basketball league with stud talent that has been recruited there.

I just said we've got a better chance than you from here on out with a nationally relevant conference to recruit to. Laugh it up, you know you'd trade places with us in the AAC in a heart beat and that playing against the blue chip teams like Memphis, Cincy, and UConn are signing does attract kids.

You've played against those "blue chips" before and your program still isn't relevant.

You seem to forget that at one time ECU was in a much superior CUSA 1.0 with nationally ranked teams. That did absolutley nothing to help ECU then. Not so sure why you think anything will be different this time around.

PER away with endless stats, etc. as this was supposed to be a thread congratulating ECU on possibly it's best season ever. I did that, twice now, but you'll continue to ruin yet another thread. Carry on.

To be fair, when they were in CUSA 1.0 with nationally ranked teams, Jeff Lebo was busy not making the NCAA tournament at other schools.

Actually, Gary Clark has been downgraded or at least he was until he was just upgraded to 4* today. (BTW, how does a guy go from having to a grade of 69 and a 2* to a grade of 80 and a 4* in one day). IMO Stavian Allen is the more unlikley of recruits.

Good times.

I'd rather be 101 than whatever the hell Marshall finished at.

MU did not make the Cusa basketball tournament and had all of that talent. The sad part for MU is that most of their better players are transferring, too. Just sour grapes on certain poster but thanks to other posters who were positive. Yes......ECU is still a proud member of Cusa and should be treated as such.

Proud of ECU Basketball Team, Coach Lebo & Staff, and the Pride Nation. Go ECU Pirates!

For one we aren't a season or 2 removed from a low major conference this time trying to jump 3 levels with that talent.

Also why don't you look up Bill Herrion who coached our entire time in CUSA 1.0. He hasn't had a winning season in 15 years, and publically stated he hated recruiting. If you can't even have a winning season in the last 10 years at New Hampshire perhaps you just suck and he was the biggest problem?

It's not like we ever beat you on recruits back then with Herrion like we are now. He's gone and things change. We are winning, and recruiting at just as high a level as you are now and go in with a solid foundation and have something like a high level conference you don't to sell anymore.

I pay less attention to those ratings than I do to offers. I will say, he got hurt at the end of the season though. This kid has ACC dreams, and ACC offers. He's of personal interest to me, because he attends the High School I graduated from. He kept Clayton in the semifinal game by himself with a knee brace that covered his entire leg. It was one of the most impressive high school performances I've ever seen, even though they lost.

We have come a long way and I am very proud of the season the Pirates had, but we've still got a long way to go to be competitive in the AAC. Heck, C-USA will be tough for us. We really have no business talking crap to Charlotte fans, seeing as they have owned us on the court thus far.

Still, we are entering uncharted territory, and I'm excited about the future of ECU bball.

that said, for as much flack as ECU has gotten about hoops, I don't get the hate on the upswing finally happening for the program.

I know I am biased in living 2½ hour north and seeing a dozen or so games in Greenville, but I think the Pirates' performance during C-USA v1.0 was better than most give credit ... I was there when they defeated the Final Four Marquette team with Dwyan (sp?) Wade. The talent level then was better at ECU than until just recently (and it is getting better).

They just haven't had the same quality of front court guys like Gabriel Mikulas (had GREAT footwork), Erroyl Bing (wide body rebounder) and Moussa Badiane (outstanding shot blocker who could have been NBA if he had ever gained strength and bulked up).

Then after Herrion, two coaching hiring mistakes that really hurt -- Ricky Stokes (whew, especially) and Mac McCarthy (why he never again attained coaching success after UTC remains a mystery). That omitted commitment is now there with the practice facility nearing completion and I really do think Lebo will have them as a true competitor and receiving a bye in the conference tournament most years.

If you've never been to a game in Minges, I can say that it is not enjoyable for a visitor (almost a coronary for me in February with the Tigers' nailbiter ... and more intimidating than my trips to Cincy, UAB, etc) and a big big relief when/if you make it out with the W.

It's 1/35th of the season, played in early December no less. We certainly finished playing the better ball and our end of season RPI would have been 5th out of 11 teams in the AAC and ahead of Charlotte as well. They got nothing on us moving forward, no reason to care about talking crap to them when they laugh at us on our thread here or throw out backhanded compliments. We are winning as much, recruiting as well and moving on to a non ragged out mid major conference they are moving down to.

Since college basketball is pretty much dictated by how good your point guard is; then you have to give Charlotte the edge right now over ECU. Charlotte is returning a really good point guard, while ECU will be trying to break in a JUCO point guard. So based just on that fact alone; they get the nod.

Hey ass hat, we finished 4th in C-USA ahead of SMU, Houston, UAB, Tulsa, Rice, Marshall, Tulane, and UCF. I count 4 schools we finished ahead of that are going to the AAC, with USF that would mid pack. But, don't let facts get in the way.

Now, back on topic. Congrats to the players and Coach Lebo.
