Football Impact On Academic Fundraising?
I would be interested to know how much academic contributions have been affected this year; and the projected impact for at least the next four; if any.
At the recent Richmond Alumni Chapter event, a number of us who are season ticket holders discussed just that.
A few admitted that their annual Dominion Fund contributions had been "redirected" to ODAF in order to pad the total for reseating. At least one started "redirecting" in 2009.
I did not do that, however I have been a Dominion Fund contributor for years; and had that money been given to to ODAF instead, I would not have sweated getting the seats I wanted.
I am not sure if the number of football season ticket holders is that significant in the grand scheme of things, but I have to wonder.

RE: Football Impact On Academic Fundraising?
Well, we are certainly hoping that our academic gift does no impact the next 4 years, but we are arranging to have our estate (vast as it might be) left entirely to Old Dominion. We have no children or other heirs. This decision is based completely on our love of Old Dominion sports, which was spurred by the football program. We, now, attend all football, most men's and women's basketball, and some baseball games. The planned gift is going to the University, rather than ODAF, though.
