If we can get things together, get the whole crowd to sing like CAA tourn etc...Start Wearing Purple could be epic.

I had the fortune to attend a world cup qualifier between Austria and Sweeden in Vienna Austria earlier this month. Singing and/or chanting in unison can be very very intimidating and fun. Throw in everyone in the stands waiving purple flags and whomever we are playing wouldn't know what to think.

Looking forward to it Deez - I feel like this is an area where JMU should excel. With our talent at all levels of arts & entertainment, we should have no issues making BFS rock... if people show up for Cent. Conn and St. Francis that is...

RE: Intro song?
I wonder how close the MRD version is to the pep band. As long as they don't "square" it up too much it'll be a hit. Thankfully most MRD tunes are solid.
Please, please, please no more Get It On. Great from time to time, but it's been drilled into the ground worse than Proud Mary.

I think it'll be hard to square up purple. With 99% of pep band also being MRDs, I think it'll be hard for them to hold back haha. And JMad03, Get It On is being replaced by Start Wearing Purple for pre game, your wish has been granted.

I really hope so. The 2013 season pregame lineup right now is:
New Entrance
Fight Song
America The Beautiful
National Anthem
Closing out with Start Wearing Purple

I like Start Wearing Purple. Listening to the JMU crowd sing the song at the championship game and at the NCAA first round was something special. I really hope that the same can be emulated at football games.

RE: Intro song?
I like it as well, but a basketball crowd, in a closed arena, close together and fired up, is a little different than a stadium where 2/3 of the people haven't made it to their seats.

It can be great. I like where its placed in the line-up. Though, a lot of our football fans are going to be saying, "what is that?" I hope the words will be on the tron. It could take 2 or 3 games to catch on.

We need students in there. Is there anything being done different to quicken the line for them to get through the gate. I don't believe we'll get them over to the stadium any earlier, therefore, we must find a way to open that flood gate. Those first two games they should simply have to show an ID.

I definitely think its possible. And I completely agree, I have never heard it played with the crowd as into it as they were in Dayton. I also agree BleedingPurple that it may take a few games to catch on but I'm hoping that once word gets around it will fill up the stadium faster and get the fans more into the game. The (sports fan) students know the song well already, and that will help a lot.

Pitt fans sing their version of Sweet Caroline after the 3rd quarter of their football games:

JMU fans and Pep Band in our version of Start Wearing Purple before NCAA Tournament Game against Indiana:

How can we develop the same fan participation and enthusiasm? From the Pittsburg Gazette after the first season of Singing Sweet Caroline, “Although the crowd seemed confused at first when students started passing out the lyrics, they caught on quickly once the song started. The lyrics also were shown on the big screen in the south end zone.”

That's what I thought when I saw that. I hope they're not taking it out, I love the Alma Mater.

Trying to move the Alma Mater to the end of the game.

Functionally it makes sense and that's what a lot of other schools do too. Alma Mater doesn't do much for "pep" at the beginning of a game IMHO.

Every school has to find (or establish) its own way...but if someone tried to remove the playing/singing of the Texas alma mater from the start of each Texas game head's would roll. I don't think you'll find Notre Dame, USC, Michigan or other historic programs playing their alma mater's at game's end either. Honestly, I think playing the alma mater at games end is a mistake...kind of like the redone Duke Dog mascot...but JMU is still trying to find that sweet spot for pre and post game shows. Let's see how the changes work. If it sucks, JMU can make up a new tradition next week/season.

Check out my footer for a YouTube link that demonstrates how off your impression is. To each their own... but UT fans are jacked by the playing of "The Eyes of Texas" (better known to others as "I've been working on the railroad") at the beginning of games...demonstrating it's not the quality (or originality) of the music, it's how the music is used to engage the faithful.
