Given the state of education in the US today, there's not much danger of that happening. Unless you count the stuff that people "learn" from Dan Brown's stories.

The swastika was also used by the Christian Church, and called the hooked cross, and was even used as a symbol in Hindu and Arabic mythology. The word swastika is of Sanskrit origin, and was a symbol for the sun in antiquity...

But the Hitler reversed the symbol to face the left, and for dark, mysterious reasons. Part of the Arian Vril Society he had been a member of years before his rise to power. These were very bad people... but you are right. It's close enough.
