2) They gain UNC and Duke (the rest of the ACC is meh).

We'll see if the new ACC is better than the old Big East.

Agreed to an extent.

Duke, UNC, Louisville, and Syracuse >>> Louisville, UConn, Syracuse and Georgetown

Pitt and ND = Pitt and ND

Who will the ACC have to match Marquette, Nova, Cincy and WVU?

I think it will take at least three years after adding Louisville, SU, Pitt, and ND to Duke and UNC before the cumulative synergy effect will bring at least 4 from the group of NC State, BC, Wake, GT, UVa, FSU, and Miami up to the level of Marquette, Nova, Cincy and WVU.

Cheers,
Neil

I believe you underestimate NCSU, UVA, FSU etc. when compared to Marquette, Nova, Cincy and WVU. But I could be wrong. I've never thought of those schools from the old BE as being especially high in the pecking order. I know all of them have had some good seasons but FSU and Miami have as well and UVA and NCSU have shown marked improvement recently after having been down for a number of years.

One other sport to keep an eye on is LaCrosse...just a hunch but it could be the next big thing in college athletics...the B1G just added John Hopkins...they are building up that sport as well...Another live Spring Event for the BTN.

I think another sport that could drive ratings is women's beach volleyball. College soccer, college gymnastics and anything inexpensive to produce, too.

It isn't too difficult to see how easy it can be to set up an ACC network. Go to YouTube and subscribe to the ACC channel. Now, how many of your televisions, blu ray players, Apple TVs, smartphones, etc... Have the YouTube app? You can broadcast at 1080p on YouTube. You can broadcast extended content. On some level, the ACC is ready to go.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it won't happen, it's just that I don't think it will happen as soon as others seem to think.

However, I think you may be underestimating what Marquette, Nova, WVU, and to a lesser extent what Cincy accomplished in the nBE without necessarily being high in the league's pecking order.

Marquette's been to 8 straight NCAAs, with 2 Sweet 16s and an Elite 8

Nova's been to 9 out of the last 10, with a FF, an E8 and 2 S16s

WVU's been to 7 of the last 9, with a FF, an E8, and 2 S16s

Cincy is historically the best of the 4, but hasn't been as good this century as the three above. They have been to the last 3 NCAAs and have a S16 appearance.

At this moment in time, the ACC programs after Duke and UNC have recent performances closer to Cincy than the other three.

But again, there's nothing to indicate that they can't get up to the level of Nova, Marquette, and WVU in recent years. It just will take time.

Cheers,
Neil

Doesn't sound like he is nearly as enthusiastic about the prospect of an ACC Network though. Am I wrong in that assessment?

It a process IMO on the ACC Network...it will get done JMO around 2016..

Think folks have that much patience with Swofford? Guess it depends on when he told them it would happen when he promised them that it would happen.

What did he promise? IIRC he promised either that they would get a network or that ESPN would pay the ACC a lot more money if they don't start a conference network.

No, according to the Sports Business Journal, if ESPN declines to create an ACC Network, they'll bump the per team payout up to $20M/year. It was already rumored to be $19M/year after ND joined up from the $17M/year after Pitt/Cuse joined.

Not much money, imo.
