UAB Men's Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule

Tough schedule. Defending champ Indiana at home September 6th.

Didn't realize that New Mexico had joined C-USA as an affiliate member in soccer. We're losing some good programs but really improving the conference in men's soccer.

Looking forward to another fun season at West Campus Field.

It's interesting that South Carolina and Kentucky stayed with C-USA after all the defections.

Where were they going to go?

CUSA has had a lot of variability over the years on who is on top... While we lost the top four from last season, in 2011 UAB, South Carolina and Marshall finished in the top five. I would say that there really isn't a better home for the two SEC schools.

And 6 points separated first place SMU from 6th place UAB. It's not like the top 4 were running away from everybody else. Plus, the Charlotte addition is very strong, and getting New Mexico is really big. I guess ODU also has a decent program if they made the field. The conference should still be very strong.

I'm surprised that the SEC doesn't have their own especially since it's men's team

Not enough schools with a program. Vanderbilt lost their soccer team to Title IX and I think a few others did too.

Yeah, Vandy used to have a hell of a program, I even went to a camp there as a kid. Title IX is one of those things that had good intentions, but the real life execution of it is a bit off. Basically, having a football team means you have to offer a women's sport that you don't offer men. It's a shame, but as we can see the SEC doesn't really care about soccer as a whole.

CUSA retains one of the best top-to-bottom soccer rosters of any non-traditional (ACC, west-coast conferences) conference in the nation. As I've said, big-picture the reports of CUSA's demise were greatly exaggerated.

I didn't think of that but assumed w/ all the money the $EC has rolling in, they'd have mens soccer since they have hockey (or will soon) & bass fishing teams.
