04-cheers

It would sure add to the reputation if a whole team went missing on their way there, or a boat load of their fans. The UFO guys would feast on that for decades. Spielberg would do a movie. Mulder and Sculley would investigate.

The jokes about one team "not showing up" every time that there was a blowout victory or every time the fan support for one team was low would be priceless. I would watch the game JUST for that!

Shame Rod Serling died. Could see him doing the coin toss while Twilight Zone music played.

Interesting idea. But I'd get trade it for a Southern game. SEC/ACC schools already have too many quasi-home games in bowl season, and there's currently only 1 bowl game in the Midwest.

I honestly don't know why the Big 10 consented to having the playoff games in the South, too. If they're trying to give the SEC more advantages than they already have, they may as well let SEC refs officiate the playoffs, too.

Well no one really wants to be in the Midwest to begin with, but certainly not in late December/January

If you want to have a really neat early regular season OR post season FB bowl game, go Down Under.

http://www.worldstadiums.com/stadium_pic...ssie.shtml

It seats 45,000 so it would be a better fit than the 83,000 seat National Stadium (2000 Olympics).

Weather is actually moderate in September (avg 68 degrees) or December (avg 77 degrees). For travel purposes, having a major college game to open the season in AU would work. The teams could fly down literally a week ahead to get used to the time change and put in their practice for the opponent. Kick the game off at noon on Sunday which is 7pm Saturday on the US east coast; ideal for primetime TV.

If it was to be a post season bowl game, schedule it for late December. Hardest thing would be fans having to obtain passports with the expedited service (2 weeks). Teams are notified in early December and the game is 25 days away. Better get a move on!!

I just don't get the passport excuse in this day and age... why wouldn't everyone want to pony up the change to get a passport in case of emergency situations? I understand some people have never been out of the country nor want to, but is the ability to move throughout the world in an instant not worth $100?

Would be cool if you get the cruise industry to do some theme cruises for the colleges involved in this bowl. Depending upon what school was participating you could adjust which port the cruise left from.

I think Puerto Rico would be the only feasible option outside of the 50 states. I can fly to PR from Raleigh for less than $300 round trip. I would absolutely go to a bowl game there.

This is part of why it would work for a Go5 bowl ... the teams could get a trip to from Orlando to Bermuda on a cruise ship at a special promotional rate, so the trip wouldn't break the bank. The team's cruise to the Bahamas would be before the main fans cruises, which would be timed to arrive the day before kickoff and stay in harbor during game day.

As long as its an honest pay-out bowl, where the schools aren't left on the hook with thousands or tens of thousands of tickets to sell at face value, it could work.
