As I understand it, Iowa sued them over it.

Looks to me like they're just butthurt... their Hawkeye logo looks like the process work that lead to the USM eagle had.

They didn't sue us. We applied for a trademark and Iowa challenged the application. Roughly 10 years later, give or take, we were denied the trademark. We don't use the logo without Southern Miss under it. We are now in the process of phasing it out. In a couple years it'll be gone.
