A 3 for 2 followed by a 2 for 3 would be ok.

Memphis has had some issues deciding who is in charge of scheduling.

Last year a new AD started. This guy came from San Jose St, where an emphasis was placed on football and basketball is an afterthought. He negotiated a series with Ole Miss involving football and basketball. This was apparently done behind Pastners back, who was saying publicly to everyone that there would be no series with Ole Miss. Pastner ended up with egg on his face when the series was announced.

It happened again with Tennesee whe The AD tied a basketball series with Football and Pastner wanted to discontinue the series.

The New AD caught a lot of heat for not letting the basketball coach he is paying two million to set his own schedule. Pastner does not want to give UT and Ole miss a foothold in the Memphis recruiting bed of talent and wants to schedule bigger Marquee games.

My guess is Pastner wants no part of a series with UAB and the AD is not going to force him. UAB is usually a decent RPI but it doesn't compare to the bigger teams Memphis can schedule home and home.

Unless our football team becomes a powerhouse overnight and the AD negotiates behind the back again, a series won't happen any time soon.

Frankly, I think Haase can get us better series than Memphis. He has got us NC. The coaching staff has ties to Kansas, Maryland and VA tech. Plus there are a lot of coaches out there with ties to North Carolina and Kansas.

Give Haase a chance to show that playing UAB won't be a RPI hit, and he'll get the deals coming in.

Memphis is old news.

I'd take a straight 3 for 2, simply because Memphis is a good destination for travel.

Said they were looking for AAC teams that were rivals for home and homes. Said he has changed OOC scheduling philosophy. One home and home, One FCS opponent. One major buy game ex (LSU) and one minor buy game ex (Vandy)

He also mentioned they're in talks with Josh Pastner and UM about continuing basketball meetings home and home.

That is one thing that I didn't think about happening with the AAC/Big East split. Originally, they were looking at 18+ conference basketball games with the 300 team conference. Now, they are down to a much more manageable number. I always though the UAB-Memphis series made sense for both teams.(UAB is cheap for Memphis to travel to, and normally a decent RPI game. Memphis is a marquee OOC opponent for UAB.) I really hope this series finds a way to continue.

Btw, 2013-14 , they will be playing an 18 game schedule. Doesn't leave much wiggle room.

Yeah, I just meant moving forward.

And I get a lot of what you are saying from the Memphis point of view too. A home and home with UAB would be nothing short of laughable to Memphis at this point, and based on our history, rightly so. However, scheduling something like a 3 and 2 might make sense. It's a close destination, it generally would result in a win(from the Memphis point of view), and there wouldn't be much of an RPI hit if a loss was suffered.

And I really don't care what we decide to do, I've just enjoyed the series and hate to see it end. Coach Haase will get plenty of decent teams on the schedule, and we'll be fine.

I thought Mackin said that he was talking with Pastner and the AD and that they were receptive to the idea of playing home and home. Wish they would put the podcast up. I guess the ex-Bama golfer was more important to them.

I do like the idea of not playing them for a year or two though.

The typically robust presence of Tiger fans, the "excuse" of a (if relatively young) traditional rivalry, combined with the biggest factor: the RPI bonus for road games gives, I think, enough cover for Memphis officials to get it past the fanbase.

I don't think the fanbase is the obstacle.

The fans think anything Pastner does is gold. All he has to do is suggest it, and they will clamor for it, but as I said, he's not interested in local rivals.
