Oregon fan here
Just wanted to stop by and say how excited I am for the game tomorrow. I went to Utah state, so I have a huge appreciation for mid major teams beating big conference teams, but I guess rice baseball is more big time than Oregon baseball. I've really liked reading your threads and the sheer volume of comments on a baseball game. I also really respect your school, from the academics to having passionate fans when your football team is so terrible (usu won 10 games the 4 years I was there, and I think it affected every sport except basketball).
All the fans have seemed classy here in Eugene so far, I have been surprised.
Anyway, good luck tomorrow and I hope those of you who made it to Eugene are enjoying PK Park, which, along with autzen, is one of the only redeeming things about this state I've found since moving here.
PS I noticed a lot of you bagging on the turf field. It is kind of weird, and during minor league games they put dirt at home, but it rains so much during the season that the ducks would never get through a series if they had dirt.

Thanks for stopping by. What is with the lack of crowds? Hangover from last year Supers? I know West Coast baseball in general doesn't draw as well but most of us were shocked from seeing all the empty seats and hearing they let students in free today.

Students get in free to every game all year, not just today. It hasn't been super warm yet, either. Maybe people are saving up their pennies for the ncaa championships for track this week. Who knows. Games sell out from time to time, but not often. Fans are probably waiting until the supers to buy tickets though. 14/ticket for GA is expensive for a lot of people.

Of course this isn't an Oregon game... it's an NCAA game. Which means OU would have to buy tickets for the students. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The AD paid for them. 500 tickets.

I've been in Eugene for work a couple of times over the past few months (live down in SoCal) - always forget how beautiful the Pacific NW is (when it's not raining, of course).
Also .. please tell your top rebounding power forward from last season that we could have used him.
And, FYI ... our "terrible" football team won a bowl game last year.

I know they did. I had mchargue on my fantasy team for a little bit. My school finished 15th in the BCS and I lumped them in the same category, so I hope you realized it wasn't meant offensively. Rice had a season a lot like usu did two years ago. Back against the wall, must win out, lose some early games in painful ways, etc.

Can't imagine how brutal that loss in Madison was.

We've loosely followed usu here, as Chuckie Keeton and Driphus Jackson were two quarterbacks that Rice looked at coming out of HS. I'm not clear on the sequence of events, but it is my impression that Rice chose Jackson over Keeton, and the rest is history. Jackson has proven himself to be very good, but Keeton's record stands for itself.
