Sunday Regional Games - Non-Rice
Both early games (Miami-OkSt and Troy-Ala) are tied at 1 in the T5th).

ESPN keeps using a metaphor that I don't get. "All chalk" and "Whole lot of chalk" is used to refer to the fact that the one seeds have been winning so many games. Anyone know where that comes from?

When a ball hits the foul line, it's a lot of chalk...and therefore fair.

Okay, but how does that translate to a metaphor where the top seeds win most of their games?

[Also want to point out that the metaphor is hard to take literally with so many of the regionals being played on fieldturf.]

OkSt puts runner on in B5, then gets an RBI triple plus an overthrow to score the batter. Now 3-1 OkSt over Miami.

Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but the ESPN3 games are NOT available in Canada, correct?

So why is the government of Canada advertising their jobs skills program on ESPN3? Maybe they're trying to get expats to come back?

Just saw it again. Here's the program they're pimping: http://actionplan.gc.ca/skills

I like how they have the Holmes on Homes guy as their celebrity spokesperson. He loves to show up at a person's house and talk about how everything was done wrong by the previous builder and how he'll do it right. Most obnoxious second contractor you could ever bring to a job site.

Alabama now up 4-1 in B6, but Troy has two on and tying run at the plate with nobody out.

OK, now I'm perplexed with "chalk" but I offer this alternative theory, none.

Another use for chalk (via wikipedia):
Taken orally, in small doses, as an antacid.

That should clarify things. ESPN makes you need an antacid with non-traceacble references. Sounds cool though.

Maybe something to do with betting and favorites.

Old horse racing term.

When a horse is the favorite -- or has the most money bet on it -- that horse is termed the "chalk." Interestingly, this term comes from the pre-computer era of the bookie. When a bookie recorded bets on a blackboard, the odds would change over and over as more and more people bet on the favorite. The horse became known as the "chalk" because the horse's name would disappear in chalk dust as the bookie constantly erased and lowered the horse's odds.

Troy plates 3 (1 earned) in the B6 to tie the game at 4 vs Alabama..

Ok State picks up another and has a runner on 3d with 2 outs in B7. 4-1 the Ok-state lead over Miami. [eta: that plate that one with a double. Now 5-1)

OkState looking to open things up in the B8: Bases juiced; 1 out. Still a 5-1 lead, but could easily be more.

ETA: And a Texas Leaguer plates two. 7-1, with 2 outs (there was a K in between).

Tip to Miami-OklahomaState play-by-play: When saying "Two extra base hits out of the Eight-hole" be sure to annunciate clearly... especially the T.

Going to T9, Miami needs 6 runs to stay alive.

William & Mary up 3-1 on Ole Miss in the 6th. Winner of that game takes on a 2-0 NC State team that is in the opposite regional from our regional.
