Hosts are 29-2 so far this weekend with Fullerton's game still to go.
(VT yesterday, and of course Oregon this evening - WOOHOOO)

RE: Saturday Regional games (non-Rice)
Walt, who will SF and OU start in the early game tomorrow?
Looks like OU will have to go with Cole Irvin. Only 3 pitchers who have most of the innings. Probably similar for SanFran. Means second game tomorrow will be pitching by committee.

Anyone watching the Fullerton game? ESPN3 doesn't have the listing for it up anymore, so if you could copy and paste the URL for the video I would appreciate it.

I like ours -- especially the pinstripes -- a lot better. Not a fan of Vandy's broad piping or beer-league script.
Spent 4.5 years in Nashville and did not like anything about VU athletics. Not the uniforms (except maybe the golden football ones), not the stadiums, nada.

Guy, USF went with their #4 starter yesterday (LHP Cecilio). I would imagine today's losers bracket matchup will be the Dons' ace (RHP Alex Balog) vs. the Ducks #2 (LHP Irvin). And while it's true that USF has used it's top relievers in both games so far, they've only pitched 1-2 innings in each game, which is how they've been used all season long. They have the luxury of 4 truly quality bullpen arms (as we had last year), with the perfect balance of two LHP and two RHPs. Should USF win, they'd likely turn to their usual Saturday starter (for all but the last 4 weeks of the season), RS Jr RHP Abe Bobb, who has pitched in both the previous games, but for no more than 1 inning each game.
IMO, USF pitching will be better suited against us in tonight's game (as they would still have a very good quality starting pitcher to go with), but if they were to advance to a game on Monday night, they'd likely go with their mid-week starter and middle reliever, Sr RHP Pulido (3.38 ERA, .256 BAA), in the winner take all elimination game, despite pitching briefly in both previous games. As I said, USF is absolutely loaded in quality pitching.

According to SEBaseball's Mark Etheridge, should both Rice and NC State advance to the Supers, we'll be playing Raleigh on the Saturday side of the bracket (with games Saturday - Monday).
That's great as it gives us an extra day to make travel arrangements to Raleigh. Go Owls!

RE: Saturday Regional games (non-Rice)
Based on what I've seen on the video, USF may have a lot of arms to go to, but none have amazing stuff. The two lefties Oregon pitched last night had much better stuff than anything I've seen from any USF pitcher.
Honestly, it doesn't matter much because we still have to hit whatever pitcher we face. And while we've hit the ball hard for the most part the first two games, we still have only scored 4 runs in 20 innings. The good news is the other teams have hitting attacks that are no better, if not worse than us. And it's a big ballpark with light winds, which favor the pitching.
I still think we'll be better off facing USF, just because they won't have a crowd behind them. And they'd be coming off three straight day games (of course that would mean a lot more if this regional was in Texas instead of Eugene). But the bottom line is that if Simms can pitch comparable to what we've had from our first two starts, we're in pretty good shape.
