Trainer and player split the credit and blame.

A player's job is to follow direction on conditioning and work hard.
A trainer's job is to motivate and instruct.

Can't see how both aren't to blame or credit.

The player gets more blame/credit in my mind. I bet the trainer would say the same.

Regardless of coach, regardless of trainer, the best players are usually also the ones with the most drive, the hardest working, the most internal motivation. It's how ZBo has far less athletic ability than but a much more successful career than Stromile Swift.
