Gabe Baker posted today on Facebook that Coach K said his goodbyes to the team. He will be missed as he's done a great job with S&C. I believe he's going home to Oklahoma to work with his dad.

Wow, big loss as far as I can tell. Team seems to have made great strides physically the last few years compared to the UCLA's and UT's of the world. And I know from chatting with a few parents that the team really responded to Coach K. Best of luck to him and hopefully his replacement can continue the current S&C path.

Coach K was one of the biggest factors in the success and improvement of the team. At a school where your 2* athletes have to be grown into 4* athletes, you have to have excellent S&C coaches like Coach K.

I had the privilege of watching the 2nd half of the Rice/Air Force game with Coack K's dad. I told him how much we in the Rice Football community valued the work that Jared had done. His father told what he did, but I seem to have forgotten. Nice man, great family.

S&C = Strength & Conditioning.

Coach K = Coach Rick Karasch

I thought "Jah-Red" was that guy hanging out at Subway sandwich shops smiling as some voiceover dude talks about his weight loss plan.

Up until this year I thought the jury was out on Coach K (no reflection on his character - he's a great guy personally). I just think previously we had way too many injuries to be viable as a team. I know that this past year he changed philosophy and got our kids bigger and stronger, at the expense of endurance, and it seemed to work (remember the quote from the Air Force head coach).

I have no idea why he left this year after our successful season and the bowl win, or whether he was invited to leave.

It seems through the years that we've had a rather large turnover in our main S&C guys, and for the most part, we've been pretty successful in our hires here (certainly there were a few mistakes but not as many I'd say as in other facets of the department).

I'm pretty confident we'll be able to find another quality replacement. It is odd however to see the turnover rate of this job, not just at Rice but throughout college athletics?
