Brittany Griner and Baylor's acceptance of gay/lesbian athletes
http://blog.chron.com/sportsupdate/2013/...sportshcat
I thought this story was interesting, mostly because it completely ignores (or maybe just didn't know) about the backstory involving Baylor's first NC in women's basketball.
As many here might recall, Emily Niemann (Jeff's little sister) was an integral part of Baylor's first title eight years ago. Shortly after she helped them win the title, she left Baylor (and basketball altogether) since her lesbian sexuality was shunned in Waco. She transferred to UCSB but I guess her heart was no longer in basketball and I don't believe she played there before giving up the game.
It's nice to see she is now living in Massachusetts and is married to a same sex partner and is now known as Emily Noski. I'm happy to see she seems to be happy and content.

I doubt Kim Mulkey was much more accepting of Griner's sexuality than Niemann. But Griner I guess was a talent she couldn't get rid of on the court.

RE: Brittany Griner and Baylor's acceptance of gay/lesbian athletes
BTW, I'm sure Rice has had its own issues through the years with gay/lesbian athletes so I don't want to badmouth Baylor without ignoring Rice's own faults. It probably depends on the coach in a particular sport as we've had some coaches who were very tolerant and others whose religious beliefs probably made it difficult and uncomfortable for the athletes.
But in general, I suspect Rice has had less issues with this than most private schools in the South.
