Now that the AAC finally revealed their new logo, which conference logo of the Go5 conferences stands above the rest?

That's a tough list...Mountain West has the best name....but the American logo looks better to me.

I have always hated the CUSA name and logo, I don't get the MAC shield although they have the best acronym. I also don't get the blue in the circle of the Sunbelt, is that supposed to be a "belt"? Would have been cooler if they had a sun with a belt around it squeezing it.

What I really think can work for the American is using the faded word with the red line borders. Forget the "A" and just go with the word American on your field and court....they said it themselves, everyone loves the word American.

It's the MAC.

Once the AMERICAN logo sinks in I really believe it will take off! ... esp as each school adopts their own color scheme ... GO PIRATES!

The rebrand comes from the same people who did the PAC and Big Sky logos.

Funny how people find things to complain about comparing similar logos.

You could say the same for Alabama, Arkansas and Atlanta Braves "A" logos. Hell, Arkansas and Alabama even have the same colors. The list could go, on and on and on and on.......

There's no perfect solution. Just about every 100% original idea imaginable has been used at this point. All we have is slight variations of the same .

Apparently nothing says Go5 like having a star (including ours) in your logo, the MWC is the only one without one. To my recollection, none of the Power 5 conferences have any in their logos.

Hands down for me the two best are the MAC and the Mountain West. That's saying something for the Mountain West considering I liked their old logo better than their new one. That said, I think the MAC would win in any case. It's classy, respects history with its foundation year on it and all in all just looks great. The Mountain West is a close 2nd though.

For the other 3, none are terrible, but none really stand out to me either. I don't really care for the Sunbelt one. The American's is OK, but I think could have been better. I know the trend is for shorter and smaller logos and get that's where the big A is coming from, but I would have had a small "The" and "Athletic Conference" above and below a bigger "American."

I was thinking about the names of the conferences to with this thread. In the power 5 we have:
2 names with Big and then a number (Big Ten, Big 12)
3 geographical names, but all of which are usually shortened (ACC, SEC, PAC-12)

In the Group of 5 we have:
3 geographic names with only one shortened (MAC, Sunbelt, Mountain West)
2 names playing on the country as a whole. (American, Conference USA)


I personally think American was kind of a mistake given the name structure in college sports (too easy to be grouped in with Conference USA). With that said, I can definitely understand why both Conference USA and the American went with national type of names.
1. They aren't geographic confining so if you expand, something doesn't sound off. Additionally, it might be easier to get people elsewhere to watch as the conference sounds a little bigger.
2. Play off patriotic feelings.
3. It's common in all industries (at the pro-level its used in both baseball and in the NFL) and in most things, it makes the entity feel bigger. example: Which sounds bigger, John's Grocery Story, Kentucky Grocery Store, or American Grocery Store?
