Unbelievable!!!! (How wrong could someone be?)
The only people it could have bothered were people who lived here at the time and later anyone those people successfully brainwashed into believing it was some curse.
The best thing for this city is people moving here from other places who aren't hanging on to that negative past.

I have always found it very odd that Memphis is so linked to MLK assassination. Memphis had nothing to do with it except that it happened here. He wasn’t from Memphis, James Earl Ray wasn’t from Memphis. Dallas doesn't get blame for JFK's death. Neither does LA for Robert Kennedy, or Delhi for Gandhi death, or New York for Malcom X and John Lennon. It has always baffled me. Memphis had absolutely nothing to do with it.
I've never heard Memphis blamed for it, not once, by anybody, ever. Lived here all my life.
I've never heard Memphis blamed, either. However, I've lived in Texas for 37 years, and by virtue of Lee Harvey Oswald's being raised in nearby Fort Worth, have repeatedly heard that the DFW Metroplex feels guilt over the assassination. Some suggest that's why its citizens went ape bat $hit for the Cowboys way back when. That the pokes were a reflection of the city's desire to put that madness behind them.
And stuff...

It took a great deal of soul-searching, but the most logical explanation for our city's being teased with championships is almost certainly sourced with that "liquor by the drink" vote in the late, late 60's.

It has absolutely nothing to do with poverty and municipal corruption though. Of course, poverty and corruption in memphis is, in fact, a direct consequence of the assassination of MLK. Before then the city was positively compared to the mythical city of El Dorado in wealth and was mentioned by religious leaders everywhere as the fruition of the City upon a Hill mentioned by Jesus during the Sermon on the Mount.
