Phil Steele has us at #26. Very in depth preview which is typical of Steele. Great breakdown of the schedule.

What is the ps# next to a player? For example Jordan Lynch is PS#93 where sims' ps#42... Is it a position thing? A phill steele ranking?

I think PS# means the average ranking of that player coming out of high school by position.

So if Lynch is PS#93, he was ranked the #93 senior QB in 2009 by an average of the talent evaluators.

That's nice, but after the Iowa game NIU's ranking could climb to #21 or fall to the 60's

RE: Ranked #26 by Phil Steele
Steele's review mentions that Stephen O'Neal was ineligible last year which explains why he was not on the field. He could have a real impact for us at a position that on paper does not look nearly as strong as last year.

Steele shows Loos and Brown as the starting tackles. If Loos is not ready for the start of the season as has been mentioned I assume we will start Brown on the left and Krempel on the right. It will then be interesting to see what they do with Loos when he comes back: plug him in on the left and flip Brown back to right or leave Brown where he is and platoon Loos and Krempel.

You are correct sir. The Magazine is a definite vision test. If you can make out 90% of it without having move your head back to get the print into focus your doing fine. I think I might finally need bi-focals to read it this year. Should I send the bill to Phil since after reading the preview every year since 2003 I can clearly point to his font size as the true cause.

That is true. Hopefully NIU is in the AP & USA Today top 25 to start the year. A win at Iowa would keep us in the polls for a while. It would be a nice change to start the year ranked instead of crawling in at the end. An Iowa win would set the tone and then make the Purdue game all that much more meaningful. Kickoff is 3 months away!

Guys how will the team do if Harnish goes down? I think we would be in bad shape if Owens went down as our back ups are young.

I'm pretty confident in saying Harnish getting hurt wouldn't have any effect on NIU.

I guess that is true, the preseason ranking doesnt mean much given Iowa is the first game, NIU wins, they are ranked, NIU loses it would take 9 or 10 consecutive wins to get there.

According to the Massey ranking composite, NIU was ranked #27 after last season, so #26 is not much of a stretch.

http://masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm

After the Iowa game, it will hardly matter what Phil Steele said in the pre-season.

All, I think what he meant to say was that if Josh Haldi gets hurt, then what would happen to this team? I shudder to think.

Pretty sure that wouldn't affect this year's team either.

Man, I know MD has said a lot of dumb things, but his campaign for Casey Weston over possibly the greatest player in school history has to take the cake.
