When a Maryland athlete enrolled at Duke, UNC, or UVA, they were formerly guaranteed to play before friends and family in MD. Now that isn't true, unless JHU comes aboard. MD is still probably the premiere recruiting grounds.

D1 Men's lax teams in Maryland besides UMD:
- Towson
- UMBC
- Loyola
- Hopkins
- Navy
- Mt. Saint Mary's
Plus Georgetown is all of three miles from the Maryland border.

If it was a problem, there are tons of options, many of which are scheduled now anyways.

False.

Hopkins is the largest research university in the US. The patriot league is largely comprised of schools with a focus on undergraduate education, not research. It makes more sense for the patriot league to add William & Mary than Hopkins.

The B1G is comprised of schools that focus on graduate level research and the ACC is a bit of mix.

One likeness makes them a B1G school now? Size, status, and selectivity don't?

Again, semantics aside...who's the consolation prize?

if by "one likeness" you mean "core mission of the institution" then yes (or at least closer to B1G than Patriot League).

I don't think there is a consolation prize. The B1G had to assure maryland that Big Ten lacrosse was a thing so if Hopkins is out, one of the B1G eastern schools will have to step up (most likely Michigan State upgrading back to D1)
