He wasnt good enough to get on the field at Bama, and lets just say Bama doenst necessarily have a QB that tares it up.

The fact he couldn't beat out a kid who completed 67% of his passes, had a 30-3 TD-INT ratio last year (49-8 in his career), led the nation in passing efficiency, was 2nd in the country in yards per pass attempt, and is expected to be an early round draft pick in the 2014 draft isn't exactly damning.

Remember, it is also easy to look good when you have nothing but future NFL athletes playing next to you. How would he fare at a school like UAB?

The fact that the MAC is on par in occasional years with the Big 10 and ACC just goes to show you that those programs in the smaller conferences are being run more efficiently. Just because a recruit is rated a certain star rating does not equate to his ability or talent. Historically these highly tauted recruits that do not work out at the bigger conference schools dont work out at the smaller conference schools either, football is football.

You lost me when you stopped talking about college football there...just to be clear on any response, can you let me know which sport you WERE actually talking about?

Maybe he meant football as in soccer.

To some extent I agree with a couple other posters that he doesn't have 5-star talent around him if he transfers from Alabama to the MAC. So we'll see how he fares then. And hopefully he's okay with finishing 2nd in the MAC West.

Let's just say, it's very likely to be a good pickup, but there are no guarantees.

Did you miss the part where he's expected to be an early-round NFL draft pick himself?

People on this board tend to druel over teams from bigger conferences, all I am saying is just wait to find out how good he is before you say he is a good get, he is a reject from a team without a strong quarterback so that has to raise some flags. Maybe he is going to be a good QB but for a QB who last had his last large chunk of meaningful playing time in HS, there is no way I feel comfortably saying what his potential his, I don't know, you don't know, no one does. Historically, these type of moves normally don't work out, but good luck.

Did anyone on this board anoint them anything? Give me concrete examples(with names and quotes).

Nick Sabin began his head coaching career at Toledo. A very good source said that Sabin met coach Campbell and likes the background of most coaches coming from Mt Union, etc. The kid wanted a better shot at starting and Sabin said Toledo would be a good place to go. You'll never hear Sabin bad mouth Toledo. He got his start here. Why is it so far fetched that he would tell a QB that he might get his start at the same place.

Id be on the rocket bandwagon if he had any meaningful time in college, but his last meaningful playing time was in high school. No way Im ready to say its a revolutionary pick up for Toledo yet. Lets just wait and see.

He supposedly will pick between Illinois and Louisville with a decision expected within the next week or so.

Oh man, he should come to NIU. I wonder if Beckman can turn Illinois around, but I guess a QB could help. Louisville could be a good spot I guess.

Another potential transfer to a MAC school is David Perkins from Ohio State. We offered him early then his recruiting went ballistic. Ended up at TOSU. From the Toledo Blade article doesn't sound like Meyer is unhappy he's leaving. Apparently his highlight film is one hit on Brutus. His high school buddy Deiter Gehrig is at BG after transfering from SMU.

Nick Sabin is not so popular in Miami.

If Toledo doesn't mind having a QB forced to sit on the bench for a full season, and the QB doesn't mind sitting out a whole season, then good for both parties. He could have gone FCS and started immediately.

With Lynch in his senior year, NIU might be a good place for a transfer QB.

Perkins has drastically reduced his options.

I think this story lays out the transfer decision accurately. Now we can put other scenarios to rest.

Except for the fact Toledo heavily recruited Ely and a RB on his HS team.

Wilder was a 5-star recruit out of Plant High school and the #2 rated RB in the country coming out of high school that year. While Toledo might have been recruiting him, I doubt he ever gave any serious thought to this school. Toledo also isn't listed as schools offering him a scholarship that year. His decision came down to Auburn, Alabama and FSU.

While Ely and Wilder did attend high school together, I would think the interest would have been for another RB that year and not in Wilder.
