Wow, just saw this come across my Twitter feed. Looks like a big get for the Rockets, perfect timing going into the 2014 season.

He was Alabama's lone QB recruit in their 2011 signing class. He was a U.S. Army All American player in high school (I wonder if we've ever had one of these on our team before). This sounds like an exciting get for our Rockets!

Wow, sounds like a great addition for the non-rivals. He didn't know we had an opening for 2014 after Lynch leaves? 03-hissyfit

Won't we have a glut of QBs? The kid from Ky, one from SC and this guy along with a couple who are qb slash receivers. I'm thinking the SC guy may move to another position?

Very interesting. This does complicate the QB situation, but you can never overlook an opportunity to bring in a player like this. I hope he is serious about staying here and playing here and it isn't just a landing spot for him for a year.

He says he will enroll in summer classes. Since he will only have 2 years of eligibility, I do not think he will transfer after one season. He will likely be fighting for the starting spot with a second year QB and a redshirt freshman when he is eligible in 2014. Right now Macon is our only backup with experience and he is not really in the mix at QB. Let the best player win the spot.

Hope not. Love the kid from SC.

I doubt it, he could have told him to go to Michigan State, they have no qb's right now.

RE: Former Alabama Crimson Tide QB transfers to Toledo
Plant HS is less than 3 miles from my house. I've watched a lot of Plant games over the past 5-6 years...they have had a lot of success winning multiple state titles. Toledo has recruited the school heavily during that time and it appears to be paying off with this transfer. Ely can play...nice to have some competition at QB heading into 2014.

Off topic, but I was at a party this weekend with Plant's LB coach. He said Wesley Bullock (plant RB, who signed with ODU this winter) really wanted to be a Rocket. Apparently there were some grade issues that kept us from signing him. Campbell needs to keep the Plant connection going....

Huh? http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/KHSCtlw...ip-ely.htm says he ran for 157 yards his senior year in high school on 31 attempts.

Maybe what he meant to say is that he was used to running the team in HS and he wasn't getting to do that at Alabama.

Interesting tweet from Ryan:

Quote:Ryan Autullo @AutulloBlade
UT needed to recruit experience at QB after recruiting/development failures in past few classes. From that standpoint, this is big.

Gee, and I thought we had two very highly regarded freshman quarterbacks on the team this coming season.

I'm guessing they mean Blackburn and Macon. The two new guys are still short on experience even if they turn out to be great.

Good catch. Well, based on his stats he's clearly a pass first, run second QB. He still averaged 5 ypc, though. Maybe his HS team had a good RB, too, so he didn't really have to run that much, except when flushed out of the pocket. That doesn't really jive with what his dad implied, though, does it?
