We were never a football member . . . maybe out women's badminton was in the Sunbelt at one time.

There's more sports than just football. And you had all sports in the Sunbelt at one time (that were eligible, Sunbelt didn't have football). So yes, 9 members were previously in the Sunbelt.

Also...this article came from another Eastern team. Haven't heard from any Western teams yet...I wonder how UAB feels about it?

UAB and Southern Miss agree on several things. Three of them are no to South Alabama, troy and ull

Louisiana Tech joined the Sun Belt in the league's 16th season ('91-'92).
Even Old Dominion and UAB were not among the six charter members (UNCC, Georgia State, Jacksonville, UNO, South Alabama, South Florida) in 1976, although they joined very soon after.

We were in the league for other sports, but never for football.

Was LT in the Belt for basketball prior to 1991?

I admit it's been a long time, but that's just not the way I remembered it as a young Jags' fan in the Cliff Ellis era.

This is correct. LA Tech never played football in the Sunbelt.

It's pretty well known --at least by people who know anything about LA Tech football-- that LA Tech repeatedly rebuffed invitations from the Sunbelt conference, and turned the Sunbelt's world upside down back in 2000 when the Bulldogs --a Div 1A football independent at the time-- decided to join the WAC along with Boise State, instead of accepting an invitation to join the Sunbelt for football (which was just beginning). For those of you that don't know, this one issue is the original source of most Sunbelt teams' bitterness towards LA Tech.

maybe it's because of the constant knocking of these schools by a bunch of make believe elitist schools who, in the words of Hannibal Lecter, are "not more than one generation from poor white trash", aka - the FCS.

or in your case, you haven't even played a game and you're going to talk down on JMU, ULL and/or stAte?

It's be ok to hear it from ECU fans or even SoMiss fans. They've actually DONE something over time, and have excellent support. Not just one good year here or there. that's why we show up.

oh, and also to educate you about potential future conference mates. 04-cheers

This is a classic Duke Dawg post. He just gets done taking a shot at a Marshall education and then accuses other schools of being elitist. Then he wraps it up by labeling the whole thing a PSA introducing JMU to the conference in which JMU is clearly not getting invited anytime soon. Classic DD.

doesn't matter; LT was still an all sports (conference sponsored) member of the conference. Therefore, LT is a former SBC member.

and actually, Sun Belt is BEGGING us to join. Why do you think they put off adding a 12th team for another year?

well join, cuz your team ain't getting into the CUSA.

Something like 10 of the 14 schools in CUSA were once in the SBC. If this is your goal you have to come up through the ranks to make it here. The SBC is our developmental league. Do your time son.

Try 5, only 5 (WKU, MTSU, FAU, FIU, UNT). 9 of our 14 have never played a down of SBC football. It is bad enough to have outsiders calling us a revamped SBC. Our own membership should know better.

I didn't mean just football... luckily UAB's administration got us out of there before the SBC added football.

From the article:

"C-USA doesn't need an additional two members.

There are two reasons for that opinion.

No. 1: The five remaining C-USA members, who havewhile the seven others bolted for the boringly named American Athletic Conference, would be insane to agree to slicing another two pieces out of the league's revenue pie.

No. 2: There aren't two more schools worthy of invitations. Sure, I know Old Dominion keeps pounding the drum for nearby James Madison, but that's nothing more than a rim-shot. The Dukes simply don't bring the necessary qualifications."

"stayed the course" = didnt get invited
boringly named....not nearly as snazzy as CUSA

this guy really gets paid to write this stuff?

don't be hating just because you got relegated to the AAC

JMU come over to the Belt and be the next team that draws more fans than Marshall.

The same logic that posters here are using to claim they will pass the AAC can be used for the Belt. Can't wait for a few home and homes with you guys.

Nobody will be scheduling home and homes with Appy State except for conference mates and MAC schools.

When your fans will no longer be able to get in free to football games for a "can of corn" and the ticket prices go up as a result of jumping to 1-A football then lets see how many fans you get through the gate. Besides we have been able to sustain 27-28K averages through several losing seasons in a row. We'll be in the mid 30's soon as the program gets completely turned around.....which is very close to happening.

But LT was. All of LT's sports that were sponsored by the SBC participated within the conference for the duration of the school's membership from 1991-2000. The conference didn't sponsor football while LT was a member; therefore the exclusion of LT's football program from the league does not matter in regards as to whether or not the school was an all sports member of the SBC.
