Not the Silverdome anytime soon. Unfortunately, it sounds like that situation is a mess. Is The Palace big enough for football? Indy is a long drive, kind of on the fringe of MAC territory--not so bad for BSU fans, though. But, for Buffalo, UMass fans--fagettaboutit. It's a shame Toledo/Lucas County couldn't have found a way to afford a football sized arena along I-475 somewhere. I understand why they did what they did, though. (There was finally a chance to get something done, so they jumped on it.) Too darned bad the Browns didn't build an indoor facility.

I wouldn't necessarily be against having the MACC at a member institution as long as it was a neutral field--it would not be impossible to arrange that.

they have all the room in world downtown and lord knows why they built that arena so small seeing as a new one was 35 years over due.

one more city block and it would have been big enough for a regulation football field.

something like the arena in fort wayne would have worked. its massive.

Yeah, I think they had been trying for so long to get a new arena built that as soon as they got what looked like an opportunity they just jumped on it so it couldn't get away.

I've driven by the coliseum in Ft. Wayne quite a few times, but have never been inside. When they were redoing it a number of years back I parked in the lot one day and tried to find a way in to get a peek, but it was all locked up. It looks pretty impressive from the outside, though (at least compared to what it originally was). I kind of like Ft. Wayne, but things are tough there, too. I think worse than Toledo.

their arena is getting another upgrade as we speak. it started out the same size as our old arena too so someone thought ahead of the curve.

fort wayne just had journey there. jobs are better there etc. they have minor league baseball, basketball, hockey, alot of college events at the arena too. toledo needs to learn from them alot instead of sitting empty all summer letting the zoo and centennial terrace take business away.

and i know you're gonna say "its summer" but people have been whining about how hot its been the last few years during the summer zoo concerts so the arena is the logical choice.

the chance only came when rossford's idea came first and toledo being as crooked as it is got the rossford ampitheater investors to flee the project once they got wind of the arena plan. you know toledo couldnt have someone else doing something they didnt even want before then.

i honestly wish rossford's arena and ampitheater woulda happened and we wouldnt be talking about this right now LOL

Singers/bands like playing outdoors during the summer. As evidenced by Kid Rock playing 4-5 concerts at an amphitheater in northern Detroit area, instead of having 20,000+ at the nearby Palace. On AxsTV the other night, they were showing a Darius Rucker concert from an amphitheater in Colorado. Look at the majority of performers over the summer and they'll be playing outdoors.

dte at least has a roof and doesnt have a mosquito problem like the zoo theater which they refuse to upgrade and put more seats in.

looks like the casino will build an ampitheater holding 8,000

also people called steven tyler stupid for booking the palace a summer ago........the day they played, it was 99 degrees. so i guess he's not so stupid

Sooo, back to the topic at hand...

Move the MACC out of Detroit if the LCB leaves. The MAC shouldn't give Ford Field/Lions any money if they are just going to drop the MAC bowl game like that.

Are you talking abou the War Memorial Colesium in Ft Wayne? Been there many times. Seats about 13,000. IPFW plays there, but they might get 2,000 and the place looks like a tomb. They did a nice renovation about 15 years ago. I think it was built in the 50's.

Move it to Indianapolis. The Memorial War Arena is in no a football venue. Bands play in amphitheaters, because they can't sell out arenas (Alice Cooper, Weird Al, Air Supply, etc.). There are some exceptions. There aren't more jobs in Fort Wayne, their unemployment rate is about the same, 9.1%. But when I do go to Fort Wayne, there does seem to be more going on.

Another reason that Lucas Oil Stadium would be good for the MACC is that it is slighty smaller than Ford Field (around 62,500, compared to 65,000 at FF). So it wouldn't be moving to a bigger stadium.

I say either that or go back to having schools host the MACC.

Big Ten plays there Champ game there and you can't tell a difference on TV. 25,000 in a stadium that holds 60,000+ looks empty.

I know. But it would be better to play in a 62k stadium, instead of a stadium like Cowboys Stadium that holds 90k.

Yeah but Jerry Jones equipped Cowboys Stadium with hologram fans to make it appear full

As much as I hate going down to Columbus, maybe for the MACC the Crew soccer stadium would be a possibility... Centrally located in MAC country and holds 22,000 plus...
