Baseball Tournament Format Debate
I know it gets a lot of flack from the fans but let's play the what if game
After game 2s:
Team A 2-0
Team B 2-0
Team C 0-2
Team D 0-2
This equals out to a double elimination type scenario but gives the bottom 2 teams the chance to play a for sure 3rd game for the fans who traveled
OR
After game 3s
A 1-2
B 1-2
C 1-2
D 1-2
With this format each team is basically in the running depending on first tiebreaker and each game was meaningful.
Of course these are on the two opposite ends of the spectrum but I think it's a much better format and a lot better of the pitchers who will have to be in the regionals the next weekend

1-8
4-5
2-7
3-6
matchups the first day
Create a loser's bracket and go from there.

Okay #8 uses star pitcher on day one and boom out after game 3. Where as #8 can use their weekend rotation and after game 3 still have a chance based on rest of the teams in their pod

Then Team 8 was way too reliant on one player and didn't deserve to move on.

You tell me how everyone in the pod can go 1-2 then we'll talk.

I hate the pod system. Biggest reason for it is to guarantee all teams play three games so their fans have to stick around an extra day or two.
Last year the teams in the title game were decided before the Saturday games were even played.

Yes I was struggling to figure this one out as well. Having played soccer my whole life, I am very familiar with what we call the pod system around here. Ideally, the pod system plays out:
3-0
2-1
1-2
0-3
But you can have two 2-1 teams and two 1-2 teams or a combination of an 0-3 team and three 2-1 teams. These would be the most interesting scenarios for the topic at hand.
Personally, I like this system. You are guaranteed 3 games, and if you win all 3, you are guaranteed to advance. There is no second and third chance for any other team. I understand that tiebreakers can make this system weird, and the third game can be meaningless, but it also could be a win or go home game, depending on the outcome.
