But Thursday’s oral argument won’t be Liberty’s first trip to the 4th Circuit over Obamacare. The same court ruled in 2011 that a tax law prevented it from hearing Liberty’s case, including its challenge to the individual mandate, until at least 2014. But after the Supreme Court upheld the mandate last year, it told the 4th Circuit to go back and hear Liberty’s other claims.

Liberty’s lawsuit now has several points: that the employer mandate violates the Commerce Clause; that the individual and employer mandates violate the First Amendment’s religious protections as well as the Religious Freedom Restoration Act; and that since the individual mandate’s penalty was ruled a tax by the Supreme Court, the bill should have started in the House — not the Senate.

The aspect of Liberty’s case that’s gotten the most attention from other plaintiffs may be its contraceptives claim. The school says that the law is violating its right to religious freedom by requiring it to cover, through its employee health plans, birth control and drugs that it says can cause abortions. More than 50 other lawsuits have been filed throughout the country, challenging the same provision. And the issue is likely to reach the Supreme Court.

If the court does rule that Socialism trumps religious freedom, this country is done. I estimate that the stock-piling of weapons by our Government would indicate that ruling is imminent.

He would ask for 10% of your income across the board, otherwise known as a flat tax.

Until that happens (I'm hovering around 50% now), paying more "for the needy" is out of the question which is why you see charities struggling right now.

There will be a ton more when the Mandate goes into effect.... Guaranteed. Roberts left the door open for that one, basically using the tax argument to allow the mandate to pass.

If I remember correctly, the only thing about taxes in the new testament has something to do with paying your taxes to Caesar like you were supposed to (I don't remember very well). Are you incapable of reading? The government is trying to prevent Christians from practicing their beliefs. The government is the one encroaching on religion here. The Christians are guaranteed their right to worship and their right to be politically active.

Why wouldn't the last shot at killing Obamacare simply be the House not funding it? They have the power of the purse, why not just either refuse to bring it up, or just not include it in appropriations?

It's widely unpopular, even across party lines, nobody can decipher much of it at all, and many people are simply scared to death of it and would consider this a blessing. It's a cinch zerO doesn't have the political capital to force the house to appropriate for it, I think their positive "rep points" would go through the roof for finally standing their ground.

My previous church gave a month long sermon on tithing, and I zoned out after week 2.. but the story I took away is that the bible has a lot to say about tax.
