If I were King...
I thought it could be fun to start a thread of what we would do if we were King of the World (or at least the NCAA) and could impose whatever rules or structure changes we wanted.

Here's one to start - if I had the power to do so, here's how I'd reorganize the NCAA, in a group of 10 team all-sports conferences with round-robin play. (As has happened recently, it assumed the Big East non-football schools breakaway).

Eastern:
Boston College
Cincinnati
UConn
Louisville
Penn State
Pitt
Rutgers
Syracuse
Temple
West Virginia

ACC:
Clemson
Duke
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Maryland
North Carolina
NC State
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest

SEC:
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
LSU
Mississippi State
Mississippi
Tennessee
Vanderbilt

Southern:
Alabama-Birmingham
Central Florida
East Carolina
Marshall
Memphis
Miami (FL)
South Carolina
South Florida
Southern Miss
Tulane

MAC:
Akron
Ball State
Bowling Green
Central Michigan
Eastern Michigan
Kent State
Miami (OH)
Northern Illinois
Ohio
Western Michigan

Big 10:
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota
Northwestern
Ohio State
Purdue
Wisconsin

Big 12:
Colorado
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Missouri
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
TCU
Texas

SWC:
Arkansas
Baylor
Houston
Louisiana Tech
Rice
SMU
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Tulsa
UTEP

Mountain West:
Air Force
Boise State
Colorado State
Fresno State
Hawaii
New Mexico
San Diego State
UNLV
Utah
Wyoming

Pac 10:
Arizona
Arizona State
California
Oregon
Oregon State
Stanford
UCLA
USC
Washington
Washington State

Independent:
Army
BYU
Navy
Notre Dame

It's a variant of a list I posted on an old CR thread some time ago. For the most part, it keeps together traditional rivalries, makes geographic sense, and it's fairly inclusive. There are a couple of "new" conferences, particularly the Southern and SWC where some schools that are now in power conferences (such as South Carolina/Miami and Texas A&M/Texas Tech/Arkansas/Baylor) are now anchor schools in conferences with schools that are currently in lower profile leagues.

I'll pass. I've been looking at threads speculating on this or that for a decade now. Frankly, I'm over it...

RE: If I were King...
I can understand that. That's just one "King" item - I just thought it was a variation on trying to run a conference draft as several other boards are doing.

Another of my "King" rules would be to keep the shot clock at 35 seconds. I know that it wasn't changed, but it seems to be a topic that arises frequently. I'd make a decree that it's been settled.

I'd also limit the tournament field to no more than the current 68. You'd also have to be at least .500 in your conference to qualify.
