Not necessarily. IMO being on a eastern island works for WVU, if the B12 addresses the traveling issues like they've said they would. WVU still gets plenty of coverage in the east, and having WVU in the B12 gets the B12 more coverage in the east, which they haven't gotten previously. WVU also gets coverage in the midwest, an area of the country that we didn't get coverage in previously. WVU has nationally known programs coming to Morgantown on a regular basis. It's win win for WVU IMO...
I just feel bad for the fans who have to travel so far. When the excitement wears off this might become a problem...if not for football it will be for all the minor sports teams...
For me the travel is about the same either way, and I'm sure I'm not the only Mountaineer fan in a similar situation. For my brother in California, the travel is actually much shorter...

Yes, it's difficult for the RV caravan. But our rivals have all fled The BEast, and the conferences they joined didn't want to include WVU with all their old rivals. So we're making the best of the situation that we're left with. It happens...

Ready for outside the box? Assuming the Big 12 and ACC stick together for the foreseeable future, why not look south? There are two universities with very good international rankings. Both have huge campuses/enrollments and powerful alumni bases. They would bring not just a new market segment but an entire country. Both are the major research universities in the country and are responsible for a large percentage of the country's patents and other resources that would greatly benefit the SEC's vision of become an academic elite. They would be additions to the west division, which would allow Auburn to scoot over to the east division. Plus, if the SEC added men's soccer, we would be pretty much guaranteed to win the championship every year! Also, if you guys know anything about TV potential in Mexico, just take a gander at the richest man in the world and how he got there. Massive, massive, massive market.

National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) - International rank #190; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Au..._of_Mexico

Monterrey Institute of Technology (the Southern MIT!) - International rank #387; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tecnol%C3%B..._Monterrey

For perspective, Alabama is ranked #451 internationally and Florida is #169, so these are very solid academic schools.

...this is why I was a bit surprised when the BigXII didn't go for L'ville, Cincy, and heck, UCONN to have a 4-team 'pod' or whatever...that would have made it a bit more 'regional', and at least a couple of road games for those teams would have been doable... well thta would have been an odd # of teams, but they could have pulled in someone like Houston to even out...

At the time they were just trying to meet their TV contract obligations... I agree and would have snatched Cincy and Louisville along with WVU to get back to being a real Big XII. As it stands now if I was the SEC I would make Virginia Tech and NC State an offer they could not refuse... UNC and Virginia are not moving anywhere... Clemson should be a consideration as well...
