If the GaSt adminstration was pushing Atl as a possible new headquarters for the SBC offices - which makes sense for them to have done - and now this article says that the SBC has committed to a lease on a new office in NO then what is not to get?
He wasn't bashing GAST.
I'd agree that the SBC offices belong in NO. That is its roots, it is more central located, we have two LA teams. But to that last point, we now have to GA teams. Atl is a major city that could easily make a good future spot if needed. Might help us secure a new bowl in Atl, and as the conference changes I wouldnt rule it out. If more East teams are added and if we were to lose UL it could change. But for now and some time to come I agree it feels like NO is the place it belongs.
That news is now months old. So the article is about the SBC moving their offices WITHIN New Orleans. Not sure why they are moving from a pretty nice building to the Super Dome but that's a whole other thread. As for It wold have been nice to have the SBC in some office space where the SBC name is on top of the building rather than buried in a stadium somewhere.
Do you even know where the office is currently? Yes, it is a great office building, and there is a history about why it is there. The city of New Orleans had an glut of office space when many of the oil giants left for Houston. Wright Waters stole the space for peanuts, and is somewhere in the sky in that building. The last time I was up there there was a huge law firm sharing the floor, so it is buried with few visitors to that floor on any given day. Law firms are not huge traffic builders.
Let me think, over six hundred thousand Saints fans pouring into the dome every year, Final Fours, Super Bowls, dozens of trade shows, concerts, circus, New Orleans Bowl are just some of the major events that has visitors pouring though the Super Dome every year. Not even counting the few hundred TooLame fans going there every game. So it is a far better location than the current location, and we are not getting the SunBelt name on any building of note. Your argument reeks of anger, or jealousy.
We have no idea of the current value of the lease at 601 Poydras? There has been a huge resurgence of office space demand since Hurricane Katrina, at least premium office space. The article is not clear, but I get the feeling that the Sun Belt will be getting the space for next to nothing except for the renovation, and that to be paid over time.
How do I know these are the facts of the current location. I don't, but I guess Wright Waters was telling me, and several others the truth when we visited him on more than one occasion. He was very tickled about his deal to get that office space, and it was plush. I think Cajunsmike is a member here and he can vouch for this conversation, as he was there with me.
