Yeah. It will be great to be in open completion with the SEC, ACC, PAC-12, Big 10 or 12 or 14 whatever and the Big East 1 and 2. I'm sure the ratings for our tournament will be off the scale.

Gross exaggeration. Ten days between the CAA final and the regular Thursday NCAA opener. Only 8 till the loser games in Dayton.

Do you STILL disagree with the decision to join CUSA? At this point you have to be arguing for the sake of maintaing your credibility. Although its actually reducing it further; if that is even possible. How shortsighted can you be?

I promised an analysis of our move to C-USA in 4 to 5 years. Well there are still 3 to 4 years to go so you will have to be patient. But I will say this. Hindsight tells us that remaining in the CAA was a non-starter. But it is not clear that joining a geographically diverse (spread all over Gods half-acre) league populated with has-beens and ne'er-do-wells will do anything to enhance our station in life.

Have a nice day.

with the benefit of hindsight, what would you have done? what would have been a better move, in your opinion, for ODU athletics? I'll admit that, at first, the 2 FLA schools didn't do much for me, but then I actually looked into them and there's a lot to like about both of those places, and thats just two examples. there is a lot of potential in our new conf and as far as I'm concerned, a lot of reasons to be excited about some of the things we can accomplish that would never have been afforded to us by staying in the CAA.

so far the only negative that makes any sense to me is that we are no longer in a regional conference and its going to be tougher for most of us to travel to away games which we're all used to doing. other than that I don't see a real negative in expanding our foot print. playing FB in texas, LA and FLA is better than playing in Mass, RI, and MD.

Don't know. And they don't pay me the big bucks to make that kind of decision. I get to carp for free.

If you are suggesting that ODU's move from the CAA to CUSA will result in reduced interest and exposure, especially locally and statewide, I could not disagree more.

It's cloudy with a thunderstorm in my crystal ball so predictions are difficult. Maybe 3 or 4 years from now I will have to tie myself to the whipping post and suffer the slings and arrows from my fellow Monarch fans. Only time will tell. As I have said on numerous occasions, I hope I'm wrong.

If we are talking about the 2012 CAA, you may be right. But the new CAA is tantamount to the Big South. Have you seen what's coming aboard? No thanks. CUSA all the way.

You might have a good argument except for the fact that VCU and GMU are now gone. It was fun while it lasted, but the CAA as we knew it is done.

The writing on the wall told us this. CUSA was our best option and we took it, simple as that.

Yeah, good thing we didn't go to the Sunbelt. Fact of the matter is that nobody really made out on realignment. VCU did for a year, but the new A10 minus Butler SLU, X, Dayton etc. is really not any better than the '05 - '11 CAA. At least we have football in a good position and at least some potential for comparable basketball if ODU, UAB, UNCC, and WKU can get firing again. If we can somehow pull a Boise State, sky could be the limit for both programs. Frankly, I am disappointed with some of the CUSA expansion and I am not excited about many of the teams, but there are some positives as well so I am going to focus on those because, unless we do become the next Boise State, we are stuck here indefinitely. We couldn't afford to go to the Aresco league (whatever it is called) even if we are invited so it is really a matter of CUSA or a Boise State type run as a springboard into a BCS league. Finances, weak TV revenue, and exit fees effectively cut out that middle step.

Tell me how great the ratings for the CAA tournament have been. Despite going against zero competition the games couldn't get on TV outside a few markets prior to the final. Need I remind you that just a few years ago, ESPN cut into our championship game to go to a women's game? Do you remember that? If having the tournament early helped, the ACC would do it. Wouldn't they dominate ratings if they only had to go against the MEAC and Big Sky and not the Big East & SEC?

And having extra days off is significant in the sport of basketball. Why do you think good schools schedule cupcakes coming out of Christmas break? Turn on the NBA playoffs and see what happens to teams with extra rest. When rhythm is broken that significantly, it is a problem.

KevinMac is right. The casual fan is not interested in lesser tournaments a full week before championship week.

As far as I know, nobody ever said that the CAA got good ratings. Certainly not me. Of course the same will be true of C-USA as there is no one of national interest in that conference either and that includes us.

As far as ESPN breaking into the game, that is a situation which I have no familiarity as I was in attendance at the game, whatever game it was, and could otherwise care less. I am assuming that it was something about Connecticut as few nationally care about gals hoops except ESPN about UCONN. Now I would be concerned about such a thing in the future as the C-USA tournament will for the most part be so far away from here that attendance will be problematic. That's a lot of time and money to spend on something that is at best a crapshoot.

As far as the time off thing I guess that depends on your current circumstances. If you are on a roll you'd like to lace 'em up ASAP. If you have injuries or some other problem you might like the rest.

It was implied in my last post but I will say it again for clarity and emphasis. The C-USA Tournament, played whenever, will be a lesser tournament.

My point is there is zero benefit to play before everyone else just to get on ESPN on a Monday night when nobody even knows there is a game. You don't have NCAA competition but you have network tv competition. As a business I would want to go where the consumer is and that's championship week.

It may get lost amongst the ACC and others but at least it will be taking place when the entire country is interested in the sport.

You have to admit though, the CAA has performed extraordinarily well in the NCAA tournament after having that extra week off. Even in the losses, I think the closest thing to an embarrassment the CAA has had in the NCAAs since about 2004 (aside from JMU this year) was our performance against Butler the first time.
