Any inclination that ULL is a regional university first came from the Cajun fan...
I'm not here to bash ULL at all. I think it should be required that if they join the CUSA, they must be referred to by their real name.
Are you also demanding that Charlotte go by their real name, UNCC? I doubt it, nor should you. LSU's real name is Louisiana State University and A&M College. Do you demand that? Virginia Tech's real name is Virginia Polytechnic University, VPU, but they go by VA Tech. Georgia Tech is the Georgia Institute of Technolgy, GIT. Fresno State's real name is Cal State Fresno. Louisiana is a shortened, legal, registered athletic name we are using. You have no right to demand anything. We are simply doing what many other universities do. Why don't you just drop it? We will continue to call ourselves what we are now branding ourselves and will not change that. There is no need for you to make an issue every time.
Your defense is flawed. It would be good if you were branding yourself as lafayette. The only examples I know of that are similar and UC-Berkeley and UNC-Chapel Hill.
Since there is a Lafayette College, we can't use that. There are many other schools that are similar. Other examples:
Texas - Texas at Austin
Nevada - Nevada Reno
Nebraska - Nebraska Lincoln
Wisconsin - Wisconsin Madison
How a school chooses to brand itself should be a personal choice for that university such as the many examples given. It shouldn't matter to anyone what that is. That said, people can choose to call us whatever they want to. We will call ourselves Louisiana. And, we will honor the wishes of any other school to call them what they request.
Kind of makes you wonder if those schools have any other state school or even a schools in their system that have complained about what those schools call themselves? I honestly have no idea.
ULL has ULM, Tech, McNeese and even LSU that don't approve of them dropping the last L in their name. If LSU is against you in LA then good luck. Tech found that out last year with the Tech - LSUS merger talk.
It's because all of those comparisons that the ULL fan mentioned are flagship universities and are commonly known by University of State. ULL is obviously not a flagship university, and Louisiana state law and ULS policy prohibit any abbreviations of ULS schools that suggest flagship status including for athletics. ULL doesn't think the rules apply to them.

You don't have any idea because, well..., it's not a big enough issue for you to have heard about in any other state, that is, Universities complaining what other Universities call themselves. Louisiana is the exception. I know the attitude in Texas is, if a University can better themselves, then do it. A whole different approach. The people seem to realize, the better a University can be in the State of Texas, the better it reflects on the whole state.
Do yall listen to yourselves? Constantly blaming everybody else.
No one's stopping ULL from doing anything. You are a significant research institution (thanks to the unfairly disrespected (among Cajun faithful) Ray Authement - without him, you'd be Southeastern or McNeese). No one's stopping you from going further.. Yea, they won't give you the name, and yes, the budget is tight and La Tech and UNO receive similar funding (why shouldn't they?), but no one's stopping ULL from doing anything. You want it, you have dreams, you have goals....great....you pay for it.

Another puzzle to me is why you have such interest in CUSA since our conference is not expanding now. As many have said, numbers don't lie and the numbers probably didn't improve with the addition of 2 more teams.
Backrow, just to let ya know ArkStFan is pretty well connected. And sometimes he has more info and breaks things on the board before anyone else knows.
Herdzoned, I complemented the poster before I asked about the acronym explanations. I more than welcome his posts. Good stuff here, and yes, he seems very well connected! It doesn't matter which school a poster is loyal to when they add to the discussions.

UT San Antonio, Western Kentucky, Northern Texas, University of Southern Mississippi, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Alabama Birmingham and Charlotte.
ULL shouldn't be forced to brand themselves as a regional university, it's in their name.
Northern Texas? Really?
Whoops. Fixed.

RE: Conference Spring Meetings conclude
Why are ULL name threads on the CUSA board? This has nothing to do with CUSA athletics or our spring meetings. I feel for my Cajun brethren, as Middle has had it's own share of name change problems, although we are mostly being held up by lesser schools in the board of regents. Either way, none of this will be solved on a message board, especially one for a conference your school isn't in, so take this crap back to the sun belt board and you tech and Cajun fans play nice.

Can the mods please move the part of this pissing contest to the smack forum and allow us to get back on topic? Last thing I want are a bunch of ULL fans on the CUSA boards in a slap fight about a name.

ULL fans don't understand the concept of flagship universities. They're part of a University System that they're not the flagship of. They can't have a name that sounds like they are unless the other schools in the system allow it. Luckily for Texas State, they were able to get away with it though they're not a flagship either. If UNT-Dallas decided to try stealing our name, you can bet we'd have a problem with it.

Why don't you cusa wannabees just call yourselves whatever you want and go back to your own boards. I know WE don't care.
Or to clear things up, does any one from cusa care? Raise your hands.
