I think they've got to balance the conference between East and Midwest. Dayton and St. Louis will have to battle it out for the Midwest spot. VCU seems like a no brainer to me, but they seem to be leaning toward Richmond. We'll see if they feel any different bout it a year from now.

If it's between SLU and Dayton, I think SLU wins hands down. However, Richmond other than location, just doesn't have much else to offer IMO. They average 5000 fans a game (which would be the lowest in the Big East) while Dayton averages 12,000 fans while being mediocre.

VCU does NOT average 5000 fans a game. This past season they averaged 7700. They averaged 7600 the year before. Their home capacity is listed at 7500, so they've squeezed every last body they could get in there in recent years. With the growth of the program, they're primed for either expansion or for a move to a larger venue like the Richmond Coliseum which seats 11,000. With the downtown location of the VCU campus, the coliseum would have easy access for their students and other fans.

VCU doesn't NOT have the lowest attendance in the Big East. Its attendance is comparable to most of the other Big East schools. Given that they're selling out their home court, the only difference between them and Dayton is that Dayton has a larger capacity.

A rivalry between Georgetown and VCU would be an enormous stimulation to fan interest in Northern Virginia.

Read the post again, he said Richmond.

Why does every post here go back to VCU?

It's the Six Degrees of Shaka Smart.

Read the post again, he said Richmond.

Thank you. Multi-tasking leads to rushed reading.

Since he was responding to a post about VCU, I thought the Richmond reference was to the VCU location. Re-reading it, it's obvious that my mind was playing tricks on me. Sorry about that.

Smart plus the fact that they're the obvious choice. It's a head scratcher that they haven't added them already.

Frankly, if I were in the Big East hierarchy, I'd be worried that the AAC might add them. In quality and location, they're the perfect complement to Navy football for the AAC to bring itself to 12 in all sports. Given the proximity of Navy and VCU, they both promote interest for AAC sports in roughly the same market.

I agree that SLU/VCU would be the best two of what's out there.

VCU has everything the Big East is after in the East, and SLU should be way, way ahead of Dayton in the West.

VCU is a public school, that's the BIG negative. If they were Richmond academically and privately, they'd be a shoe-in. Seems like the public thing is a big negative for the Presidents.

Public schools have to disclose anything and everything to the Public. Private schools can say go f yourself.

Not entirely, they still have to claim things for their tax exempt status. Like how much they pay their employees and what not.

some people laugh about 'institutional fit'

but for the decision-makers

i think its a big piece of the puzzle

not the only piece but a big piece

and that works against vcu in this context
