Nice to see Hustlebelt crap all over Akron's signing class and even assume that the low number of signees is because of a lack of interest from recruits. It's not like there could be other reasons, like needing the extra scholarships for last year's greyshirts and incoming transfers, or that we only had 19 scholarships open up through graduation.

Thirteen signees (minus one who will sit out until next spring), plus four greyshirts from last year, plus at least one confirmed transfer and you're at 17 of 19 available scholarships. Save the other two for some 5th year transfers that Bowden seems so adept at finding, and there you go.

"Fear the Roo!"

*th best in the MAC and 115th overall by 247sports. However that does not count the Post Grads etc. Think we'll do much better this year.

eCK: I see that the Marshall back-up QB is transferring to UMASS to take graduate courses...he's supposed to be a pretty good player but stuck behind Cato.

We're very hopeful that he's as good as the Marshall fans think he is. In addition to being big and fast, he's apparently also very smart, as he's graduating from Marshall in only 3 years with a double-major in finance and economics. That means he'll have 2 years of eligibility at UMass, since he redshirted as a freshman.

Other than last year's Miami team, UMass has been by far the worst passing team in the MAC these past two seasons. If we could get merely average MAC performance out of our QBs, that could greatly change the complexion of our games. Not being able to stay on the field on offense plus no depth on defense has been the losing formula for us. With several new QBs coming in plus a well-regarded NFL QB coach at the helm, there's every reason to believe we'll see improved QB play. Then it's just a matter of not moving backwards in other areas.

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
Is that Manny Pacquiao'with the rankings? How can Scout even provide a wrap-up yet when they never even rated many players? KSU had 8 of their signees listed as NR. I believe the FBS recruits default to a two-star rating yet they have nothing for them and they listed Reggie Howard as their top recruit yet Howard is headed to Cincinnati. The capsule for Akron says they had the 59th ranked class yet their rankings show them at 126. How can you be that far off? Something tells me they had these capsules done up in advance based on verbals and then ran it without proofing it. Scout should finish things up on their end before rushing to get a wrap-up out there.

"The Broncos signed nine players who had BCS offers"

So do they mean Power 5...or Power 5 + AAC? BCS is dead, Scout...

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting
Western just finalized the transfer of Richard Ash. 4 star recruit at UofM and has a fifth year of eligibility. He's a 6'3" 317 defensive tackle.. Should be immediate help on the line.

A very late addition to Akron's 2014 class: http://247sports.com/Player/Richard-Dorvilus-28481

Was previously committed to FAU. Holds offers from Baylor, Wisconsin, Kansas State, Arizona State, Rutgers, Indiana, WMU, UMass, and many more. Should provide an immediate impact, but the LB position seems to have a logjam of talent.

New Juco TE from Dan Malone Top 25 count down:
Quote:Jean Sifrin, a 6-foot-7, 250-pound giant from South Florida.
...
Out of high school, he was ranked a 2- or 3-star prospect by most recruiting services. And before he signed with UMass, he reportedly received offers from power-conference programs like Kansas, Oklahoma and USC. If he lives up to his billing, Sifrin will be too good to leave on the sideline.

hudl Jean Sifirn highlights

Quote:Most of the clips are blocking highlights, which Denton seems to do well with. And while Sifrin appears lined up in the slot oftentimes, Denton is more strictly an in-line tight end option. A little more digging, however, shows that Denton isn't afraid to catch a pass or two, either.

hudl Jon Denton

Dan Malone Top 25 count down installment #11 so these guys are #15 in top 25.
