Wow H1, we get the BTN over here. Welcome to the site. I value your opinions and you cannot help but get involved living down here.04-cheers

I can get it but it is on a premium package I do believe and not really sure I care THAT much about it, know what I mean? I couldn't even bring myself to watch most of the Iowa games last year from start to finish and I have never been such a Big Ten guy that I take in all the games. The ones ESPN and ABC show is enough for me.

The Big Ten team I am actually quietly rooting for is Rutgers. I think they will be a big surprise. But anyways, I have no idea who I will end up following in the SEC. Having driven by Death Valley, it was awesome, I would certainly love to take in a game or two there but to be honest I really don't think I can get into Tiger football. It is all about defense and boring offense. Had enough of that in the Big Ten....

They just got a new offensive coordinator at L.S.U.

UK fan here, I've lurked this site FOREVER (particularly the realignment board as I'm a nut for that stuff), and have enjoyed the postings of folks like JRsec and USAFMedic and others from afar... just never felt the need to sign up, and only have now because guest access was disabled :) Just wanted to represent as part of Big Blue Nation in this check-in thread. I am born and raised in Ohio, the first member of my family born here, but there are so many Kentucky and Tennessee descendents here, especially KY, and UK fans are everywhere. I make it down to Lexington at least once a year for football and basketball, and things are looking up in both sports for the coming seasons. Can't wait!

Why thank you JR. Of course, I have spelled my handle Zombiewoof for years after not being able to register on a site as Zomby Woof. The handle derives from a song by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, though the song itself holds no particular meaning to me -- in the early days of the interwebs, I just thought it would tend to be a unique username.

On to my tale. Way too much to go into in one post, because I am old as dirt -- well at least as old as USAFMEDIC 04-cheers -- I have lived in 11 states all over the country and have....er...um...uh...many experiences. So other than saying that I have USAFMEDIC beat in the offspring department (five kids and eight grandkids), I'll stick to the sports stuff unless pressed for further details. 03-shhhh

I'm originally from east Texas (Marshall and Longview, Houston ain't east Texas people), but left while still in elementary school. Bouncing all around the country, I picked up allegiances to various schools. I grew up a Texas fan, but was supposed to go to Texas A&M after high school. One of my best friends in high school was scheduled to room with me at A&M, but he bailed on me just a few months beforehand. Since I wouldn't know anyone else at A&M, College Station or SE Texas, I regretably chickened out and ended up going to a local school (William Carey University). We had no football team, so it was easy to maintain the ties I had developed to all of the other schools I pulled for over the years -- Texas, A&M, Penn State, TCU, UNC, Duke, Alabama and later, LSU, in addition to others in varying degrees.

Having lived most of my adult life in Mississippi, I consider myself a fan of Ole Miss and USM (which is 30 minutes away). For a time, I was a sports writer/editor and have done some stringer work for the Associated Press. The AP's top college football writer, Ralph Russo, was the Mississippi AP guy before moving to the national desk and he used me for USM games, usually to get quotes from the visiting coach/players, while he interviewed the USM guys. It is supposed to be part of a sports guy's makeup to pull for everyone and no one, which fit my profile pretty well. Now that I am out of that game, I have settled in as primarily as fan of Ole Miss, USM, Texas and LSU. I still root for the others to win, but I am more emotionally invested in those.

I love the SEC -- especially football and baseball -- and during bowl season, I will even pull for schools that I would normally root against, like Arkansas (my old SWC bias is showing) and Tennessee (I hate rooting for that baby vomit orange bunch, but I do anyway). It's great having A&M and Missouri in the SEC and I think they have integrated magnificently.

Back to me 04-rock, I'm still involved in sports to a degree, since my primary job is in sporting goods. I'm posting this now from my parttime weekend job as a night auditor at a motel. With all of the free time here, I spend a lot of time reading these boards and checking in at Saintsreport.com, where I am an admin.

I know this is long and I really haven't said much of interest, but I just wanted to add that almost all of my favorite posters on the csnbbs boards have posted on this thread. To me, the people that have posted on this thread (and the SEC fans thread on the realignment board) are far and away the ones that I consider "must reads" whenever I see their posts. Thanks guys. 01-ncaabbs

I'm right in there with you and Medic on the grandchildren (5). Welcome to the the aftermath of LBJ's Great Society funded by our Social Security, and one Clinton and Two Bushes version of exporting jobs via NAFTA. America no longer has a retirement plan only an expirement plan and that from the current White House occupant and his healthcare agenda (taken from Romney).

By the way I spelled Zombiewoof correctly on another thread.

Were you doing your work around USM when Farve was there? Anyway, everyone thinks this realignment saga is winding down. I don't think it will until Texas knows for sure what it wants to do. If they expand the Big 12 I will buy that it's winding down. If they don't I think options are being shopped. What are your thoughts? Take care, JR

SEC Check in Thread
I am actually a native of Tuscaloosa, but grew up in Mobile after my dad took a job at South Alabama not long after I was born. I wound up at Alabama for school and then got my master's degree at Kentucky. I even worked at Ole Miss for a month on a project that one of their professors was working on with a professor at Alabama.

I actually played Team Handball at the club level for 3 years at Alabama-the only two other SEC schools that had clubs at the time were Georgia and South Carolina. I wasn't that good, but I went five hole on a goal in a game against South Carolina in the 2001 SETHC tournament. I also had two goals in a game against Army.

Good to have someone from the East Alabama Temple on the SEC board. Just leave the Spike D 80 at home and we'll be fine.

Great to have you here! We need posters from all fourteen schools so let's root them out and get them here. I am starting to find the SEC board more interesting than the CR board right now.

Me too Medic. We might have trouble finding some Mississippi State fans around here. There's that reading thing and all. 03-lmfao Just kidding. Most of my wife's family and the people at our church are State fans, but I couldn't resist the jab.

I was out of the sports writing business during Favre's time at USM. I worked parttime for the Hattiesburg American while I was in college in the 70's, then did a little free lance stuff in the 80's before getting back into it full time in the late 90's before getting out for good around 2004. I had a lot of fun doing it though. As sports editor of the Laurel Leader-Call, I covered local sports, which included Jones Junior College and USM, as well as the New Orleans Saints as much as possible. I've interviewed a ton of people you would recognize, including Jason Campbell, Deion Branch, Javon Walker, Michael Boley, Steve McNair, Clinton Portis, Mike Ditka and Ricky Williams (a complete headcase). There are times I miss it, but unless you are big time, the pay sucks.

I also think realignment is going to die down for the most part. Texas will probably have a decision to make as the GOR expiration approaches. I think they should stay in the Big XII, but wouldn't be surprised if they went independent. I hated the idea of them going to the PAC as I would if they considered the B1G or ACC. The Big XII or indy should be their only choices. IMHO, any expansion of the Big XII should be 1) with schools in contiguous states and 2)to provide a bridge to West Virginia. I also think it should only be to the east, so the expansion candidates should be (in order) Cincinnati, Memphis and Tulane to get to 12.

Come to think about it I can't remember any State fans on this board either, When I was working we had a bunch of them. It was a weekly food fight between MSU, Ole Miss, LSU, and Bama fans. I put a Gator bumper sticker on the front bumper of my crazed Alabama friend's truck, and she drove around for a month before she noticed. U of Alabama license plate on the back...lol I also saw her get our main bosses picture, who was a TCU fan from Dallas, put it on a Bama Christmas Card and mail them out to 100 people. Crazy stuff but it was fun.

I LOVE stuff like that!! Now I'm motivated to put an Ole Miss sticker on my brother-in-law's truck. He's a BIG Bama fan and will freak out when he finally sees it. 05-stirthepot 03-lmfao

If he is a true Bama fan he'll have whitewalls on that truck too! They think that sets them apart from Auburn agricultural students.

You guys are giving me some great ideas. I'm going to see if I can find an Auburn sticker instead. 04-rock

The boss made the fatal mistake of trying on her Bear Bryant hat as a joke, and she published him on the Christmas Cards. It was priceless... SEC folks have a sick sense of humor...

RE: SEC Check in Thread
LSU grad '88, currently residing in SLC. My wife is an Aggie alum, so the addition of A&M to the SEC has allowed her to share my hobby/passion for saturdays. I've learned to enjoy west-coast football, especially with Utah joining the PAC....but it's not the same. I did not appreciate the tailgating in the south until I moved out here...!

I finally popped over here as the realignment board is now boring....the Big-12 fans defending their precious "round robin" scheduling, endless pitches for ECU to the SEC, and incessant whining from UCONN, South Florida and Cinci fans.
