We need to let Zombiewolf and Lurker Above know what's going on. I figure Bullet will show up at some point too.
Why thank you JR. Of course, I have spelled my handle Zombiewo
of for years after not being able to register on a site as Zomby Woof. The handle derives from a song by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, though the song itself holds no particular meaning to me -- in the early days of the interwebs, I just thought it would tend to be a unique username.
On to my tale. Way too much to go into in one post, because I am old as dirt -- well at least as old as USAFMEDIC
-- I have lived in 11 states all over the country and have....er...um...uh...many experiences. So other than saying that I have USAFMEDIC beat in the offspring department (five kids and eight grandkids), I'll stick to the sports stuff unless pressed for further details.
I'm originally from east Texas (Marshall and Longview, Houston ain't east Texas people), but left while still in elementary school. Bouncing all around the country, I picked up allegiances to various schools. I grew up a Texas fan, but was supposed to go to Texas A&M after high school. One of my best friends in high school was scheduled to room with me at A&M, but he bailed on me just a few months beforehand. Since I wouldn't know anyone else at A&M, College Station or SE Texas, I regretably chickened out and ended up going to a local school (William Carey University). We had no football team, so it was easy to maintain the ties I had developed to all of the other schools I pulled for over the years -- Texas, A&M, Penn State, TCU, UNC, Duke, Alabama and later, LSU, in addition to others in varying degrees.
Having lived most of my adult life in Mississippi, I consider myself a fan of Ole Miss and USM (which is 30 minutes away). For a time, I was a sports writer/editor and have done some stringer work for the Associated Press. The AP's top college football writer, Ralph Russo, was the Mississippi AP guy before moving to the national desk and he used me for USM games, usually to get quotes from the visiting coach/players, while he interviewed the USM guys. It is supposed to be part of a sports guy's makeup to pull for everyone and no one, which fit my profile pretty well. Now that I am out of that game, I have settled in as primarily as fan of Ole Miss, USM, Texas and LSU. I still root for the others to win, but I am more emotionally invested in those.
I love the SEC -- especially football and baseball -- and during bowl season, I will even pull for schools that I would normally root against, like Arkansas (my old SWC bias is showing) and Tennessee (I hate rooting for that baby vomit orange bunch, but I do anyway). It's great having A&M and Missouri in the SEC and I think they have integrated magnificently.
Back to me
, I'm still involved in sports to a degree, since my primary job is in sporting goods. I'm posting this now from my parttime weekend job as a night auditor at a motel. With all of the free time here, I spend a lot of time reading these boards and checking in at Saintsreport.com, where I am an admin.
I know this is long and I really haven't said much of interest, but I just wanted to add that almost all of my favorite posters on the csnbbs boards have posted on this thread. To me, the people that have posted on this thread (and the SEC fans thread on the realignment board) are far and away the ones that I consider "must reads" whenever I see their posts. Thanks guys.
