I went looking at a condo downtown today... I liked it, but prefer something in a not-so-south part of Florence St.
Anyway, the building owner told me he (and some investors) are looking to put a building with condos for lease/sale overlooking the ballpark. I told him to give me a call when that is set up (in about 15 months or so). But he said quite a few professionals are moving into his buildings. So, it appears that the downtown revitalization is becoming more than just a rumor or wish.
Interesting stuff going on.

Quiet down fitcrud. I pay $1800 a month here in the DC area. I can tell you that where I live, it is worth every penny. This is great news, this indicates to me that the quality of life in downtown is getting much better. I bet those condos are top of the line, and fitcrud wants everyone to pay half price for real estate gold, no way that is happening. You really don't understand economic development.

What does downtown El Paso have to do with Washington?
I don't understand economic development? I understand it enough to know that most El Pasoans would rather purchase a house for that amount of money than to be a renter downtown.
At those prices, they are making sure that a large segment of El Paso doesnt' move into that area.

I don't think that someone who complains about a property tax increase of not even $100 is going to dictate our economic development, much less know what the term is

They aren't that bad. Most houses in town are renting for well over 1000 already.
Besides, there are some cheaper places. You can always move into the apts south of Paisano.

You are correct. If you are just looking to rent, that isn't a whole lot more than you would get anywhere else.
If you wanted to buy however, you could do much better.
Are these downtown sellers targetting a specific segment of the population? Or do they want to see a diverse group of people living downtown?
Just seems strange to insist on a family entertainment venue like a baseball stadium and yet not cater to family living options.

Economics drives it all.
Catering has nothing to do with it. The buildings are owned by private parties.

Understood.
I'm just not following what is going on in downtown. The city seems to want to revitalize it for all of El Paso but private interests seems to be catering to young, professional, single types.
Just seems like the two parties are going in different directions.
