I would've been happy to go but actually prefer the ACC. I knew the Big East was never going to be a valid conference unless ND came in full time and Penn State would join. I supported the Big East but wanted a ticket off the sinking life raft.
I've always preferred the ACC over the Big 10. It fits our school and fan base better. BTW, I don't hate the B1G...just critical of the arrogance.
Ahh okay, I agree and I do know what you mean about the arrogance, I've grown up in the shadow of scUM and get to deal with the jackwagons that are brainwashed into thinking scUM is god and Michigan Stadium is heaven and State fans like myself are bullied quite often, but the people that are on this board aren't too bad.
The arrogance is mainly from UM and tOSU...the UM fans were the only group at the F4 I didn't like as a whole. Got along fine with the Ville and Wichita St fans.

This doesn't surprise me. The core of the ACC is the Carolina-Virginia axis, and none of those six schools was leaving the ACC unless the conference lost so much that it was no longer tenable as a major football league.
The danger to the ACC was a pincer movement by the SEC in the south (invites to FSU, Clemson, Miami) and the B1G to the north (invites to Louisville, Pitt, BC, Syracuse). All of those schools would have left the ACC if invited.
The ACC existed at the pleasure of the SEC and B1G, not because its core would abandon it (it wouldn't) but because the core could have been left isolated by SEC and B1G raids.
Too bad the B1G would NEVER invite ANY of those teams.
If Pitt was located in any populous state other than one currently in the footprint they'd have been invited over Rutgers or Maryland. If Pitt was located in NY State they'd be in.

The B1G was going to invite Louisville?

No, but they could have if they wanted to.

Absolutely true. Relatively big market, excellent hoops, excellent football history, research juggernaut, excellent university. Pitt literally has EVERYTHING the B1G has said it is looking for in expansion. Alas, Pitt doesn't expand the B1G's television footprint so it will never be a member of the B1G. I think our comp in this instance is Florida State and the SEC. The Noles have everything any league would want. However, Florida already gives the SEC entree into the Sunshine State so for FSU - like Pitt - it is the ACC or bust.
