...appears it's going to be Kevin McCanna getting the start for the Owls, going against fellow Freshman RHP Adam Derouen...
12 app, 2 starts, 1-0, 18.2 IP, 1.93 ERA, .314 BAA, 8 BBs, 4 HBP, 8 Ks, 22 hits
The ERA is clearly misleading given the .314 BAA and sub-par K:BB ratio. La Tech does have a solid bullpen, however.
We REALLY need McCanna to give us at least 5 - 6 innings tomorrow night. As much as we can ill-afford a loss to a team with a #261 RPI, we cannot afford to burn our bullpen when we've got a tough Memphis squad coming with just one days rest.
And though we beat them in back-t0-back games a month ago, both games were relatively close. Having said that, LaTech's offense is pretty bad, especially when factoring in that their stats are somewhat inflated by their very weak strength of schedule (#208). As a team they are hitting just .250/.337/.326, with 15 HRs, and averaging just 4.2 runs/game. They've stolen just 24-42 bases (57%) and have executed but 22 sac bunts in 48 games. So long as our defense plays clean, and our pitchers keep the free passes to a minimum (and noone on LaTech has more than 16 BBs), we should be able to hold down their run total.
