I will agree with you that if you were looking to grow a new school in the PAC 12, TCU would serve as an example. Big XII membership last equaled like a mid-30 % increase in home attendance at around 45-46,000, which is the national CFB average now.

03-yawn

Lets address these one by one:

1. "Houston draws a bit over 27,000 fans in a huge city. UTEP outdraws them."

We have had our attendance issues, and they have been beaten into the ground over and over again. No need to come up with what anyone who is not biased (yes I am a fan but have a very unbiased stance on this issue) will call excuses.

Now back to the point a little over 27 is a fair number to throw out there but that is an average and not what we have been drawing for awhile now. I think in a train wreck of a year we averaged just under 28k. anyone who even casually follows our team knows getting 28k to watch what we put out last year is an accomplishment especially considering our issues in the past.

CFB now is not what it was in the 80's- early 90's so before JML (or anyone else goes there) that is not a valid argument. Hell Texas averaged 71270 in 1985 and averaged 100884 in 2012 (29% increase) and that is a level where there was already a ton of interest. CFB now is a whole different animal.

As for UTEP averaging more than us. Whatever....... here are some numbers for you (I'll just break down 2012 for now but can extrapolate if necessary)

UH: 27k+
UTEP: 29K+ (with #4 Oklahoma padding the stats)

Without Oklahoma they averaged 27K. UTEP does well considering their isolation and products that are what they are. UTEP's celling is in the 27-32k range, and ours is much higher.

LMAO coog fan....

2004 UTEP 8-4 = 46k attendance average...
2005 UTEP 8-4 = 48K...
2006 UTEP 5-7 = 43K losing season
2007 UTEP 4-8 = 37k losing season
2008 UTEP 5-7 = 37K losing season... you get the picture
etc
2012 UTEP 3-9 = 29K

It only took 7 consecutive losing seasons by UTEP to reach the coog ceiling!!!

Your sig says it all!!!

And from the looks of it, CUSA 3.0 is going to keep you below the "coog ceiling" indefinitely. Good luck with that. 03-phew

You really think coog fans will come out and support BE 3.0? The same teams that UH fans didn't support when they were in CUSA. The last time UH averaged 40K plus was in 1977. UTEP has the ability to average 45K plus. UH not so much.

The reality is that Houston began building a proper ticket buying fan base in 1998 when they moved the games back on campus. The second move toward building a bigger ticket buying fan base has been the massive increase in on camus housing. Not that long ago, only 1500-2000 students lived on campus. I believe thats now closer to 7500. Only Texas A&M has more on-campus housing among Texas universities. Students who live in campus housing are far more likley to be loyal alumni and future season ticket holders. The move back to campus and the creation of more student housing should have been done in 1970's--so we are way behind where we should be. Better late than never.

Seriously, you're borderline obsessing about UH. It's kind of creepy.

Get back to me when UTEP is averaging 45K versus the Sunbelt all-stars. 01-wingedeagle

Not at all and certainly no man crush on someone who only reads what he wants to read instead of looking at the cold hard facts. For the record, not obsessed with Houston at all. I'm merely correcting the mistakes that so many coog fans like to paint as the truth.

^ Yep. UH is the definition of a late bloomer. Transitioning from a commuter school to a traditional 4-year college takes time.

By 2015, we will have 11K beds on campus. That's a staggering 20% of students living on campus. A far cry from just 10 years ago, when that number was less than 5%.

We did in the WAC when the MWC left us behind. Did it in C-USA 2.0. The same will happen in C-USA 3.0. Unlike the vast majority of nonAQ's, we don't rely on opposing teams to fill our stadium. Win and the fans will come, lose and they'll stay away regardless of the conference UTEP is in.

With that being said, I really hope one day UTEP goes back home......the MWC.

You guys would've been a hell of a better add than SJSU or Utah State. Never really understood that. If you can pull 45K in CUSA 3.0, more power to you. I don't expect you to start pulling 8-9 win seasons out of your hat anytime soon, though. But if you do, you'll have a shot.

Does your marketing department run any specials on game days? Like for example a package of four tickets with parking included and free popcorn and soda for $60? That might attract a young family of four who otherwise can't afford Texan games but wants to experience FBS football. Or maybe run some Groupon specials.

Lots of people were making fun of how UTSA was attracting people to their games but I think they did a great job on their KFC deals. I'm sure similar FBS programs in big metro areas like Rice and SMU for example should follow that marketing strategy to bring more people to the games.

After the GOR expires, lets see where UT and Tech end up compared to SMU and Houston. I have a feeling we will be just fine, continue to get paid nicely while growing our stadium to over 70K plus.

I'm definitely looking forward to opening up the Kliff era in Dallas against the ponies. Should be a huge Tech crowd and we might even outnumber SMU fans in your own stadium.

The funny thing is, without UT, TTU is pretty much in the same boat as UH and SMU. Ain't no P5 conference giving a s**t about Tech without them firmly attached to UT's nuts. Makes this guys chest beating and raging inferiority complex all the more humorous.

LOL @ "rumors" about Tech having a free-standing PAC invite. I didn't know Raider Rash affected the brain, too.

Supposedly UTEP turned the MWC down when it was desperately looking for replacements once Utah, TCU, BYU left and SDSU and Boise were flirting with the Big East. At that time, C-USA looked stronger and the MWC/C-USA merger was almost a done deal so UTEP decided to stay. It was Utah State and UTEP but when UTEP said no then the invite went to SJSU. That's according to some Utah State fans on the MWC board. UTEP never denied or confirmed that rumor. Either way we got screwed.

It would take probably a 7 win season to get close to 40k but we have a new coach with a new system so I don't expect a winning season this year. Hopefully I'm wrong. Now I'm way more optimistic about basketball next season.

If they were, they would already be there. They aren't and their is a reason for that.

That "Tech" problem no longer exists

UT and Tech are still in the same conference and the last time they tried to leave, Tech was part of the discussion.

And as I said that problem no longer exists

After the GOR expires, lets see where UT and Tech end up compared to SMU and Houston. I have a feeling we will be just fine, continue to get paid nicely while growing our stadium to over 70K plus.

I'm definitely looking forward to opening up the Kliff era in Dallas against the ponies. Should be a huge Tech crowd and we might even outnumber SMU fans in your own stadium.

Good, your money is fine with us
