RE: ,,,best restaurant in your team's locale...
For my first post, I'd like to contribute to one of my favorite subjects....food.
In Charlotte, if you're willing to drive a few miles, check out the NoDa (North Davidson) area.
Boudreaux's Louisiana Kitchen for good cajun/creole fare
Cabo Fish Taco
Revolution Pizza/Ale house - took over a former Mellow Mushroom
Heist Brewery - the beer sucks but the food is amazing.

In bowling green there are a lot of options within walking (uphill) or QUICK drives from the athletic park. Downtown direction, Mellow Mushroom (pizza and beer), mariahs, ### main st (it is the address but i forget it), Brickyard, and Spencers (coffee and sandwiches). Also hilligans is the campus bar.
Heading toward the south campus there is buckhead and cheddars.
We have an on campus place like redzone, its called the power house. Beautiful old building that was converted. Its complete with an courtyard that features the old smoke stack from when the building furnished steam to heat buildings.
Also Cresent city is a good local choice in hb.

...hey, I'll be in the Quarter on vacation in about a month... are there any good restaurants down there?
...seriously, we've been there at least 10 times, and been to QUITE a few incredible eating establishments, of course... we are wanting to check out more of the 'local' places this go round... the Quarter has some of the best, but also most $$$ around... ANY suggestions as to local favs around the Garden district - Warehouse district would be most welcome... as to the 'nightspots'...well, from the top of the post, I'll just leave all of that to the rest of y'all...

You know... it's funny. When I lived in Charlotte, those 2 places were 2 of my favorites, and I was really upset that I wouldn't have easy access to them anymore. So, when I moved up to Blacksburg, VA for work last July... what restaurants are basically across the street from eachother??
Cabo Fish Taco and Boudreaux's. Apparently there are only 2 of each in the world... Charlotte & Blacksburg. Haha

UTEP has been a great big brother in showing our lil bro the ropes, but in no way, will we take responsibility for them butchering the food. They don't even know how to
I knew it was coming. There's some good Mexican food here, and there's some bad. Mostly good. YMMV.
As far as good food here, it depends on what you want. Most of the touristy riverwalk places suck out loud, with the exception of Paesanos and Luke. Some of my favorite places are near Downtown, a bit of a walk from the area hotels, but manageable:
Liberty Bar
The Monterey
El Mirador ("real" Mexican food)
Taco Haven ("tex-mex" )
La Gloria (Mexican street food. Pricey but worth the trip)
Tre Trattoria
The Friendly Spot (outdoor bar, can't speak as to the food, but it's a fun place)
a short drive from downtown:
Cappy's
Dough Pizzeria
Chris Madrid's ( best hamburgers. Don't miss this one)

UNT fans, better take the chance while you have it.
For New Orleans - well it's absolutely the easiest choice for all C-USA cities (though not always for football I've been in most of the cities - business, vacation or football).......again - there is but ONE choice in New Orleans........
The closest one.
Yep - just pick one and go. There are very few places you'll go where you'll not be happy with the choice. Famous places that are most definitely NOT over rated?
Galatoire's.
Jacques Imo's.
City Grocery (muffaletta).
Mothers (breakfast / po'boys / red beans and rice).
Mr. Johns Steakhouse.
Johnny's Po'boys.
Acme Oyster House.
All but Jacques Imo's and Mr. Johns are French Quarter OR within walking distance of the French Quarter. Jacques Imo's and Mr. Johns can be reached via the trolly but find out where to get off so you don't go too far (that might proof unwise if your choice is Jacques Imo's).
LOTS more I could list, and it gets to a ridiculous number of choices if you wander to parts of the NO metro area NOT called the French Quarter, but the tulane goobs can be more specific.
---
Hattiesburg - decent dinner type dining = Crescent City / Purple Parrot. Burgers = Mugshots.

Mother's is overrated when you factor in wait time to get in. I like the Radiator Special at Cooter Browns uptown with a side of fries. A good sports bar. Pascal Manale's for some bbq shrimp.
I sent poster a good list in addition to yo's

agreed. We went to Domilese's last time we were out there, and I thought it was a lot better than Mothers.

Food choices, obviously, is highly opinion based. As a self proclaimed red beans and rice expert, though - the only beans that beat Mothers is, well, MY mothers. :)
I've heard someone say they didn't like Galatoire's --- preposterous (I'd say there's a high probability of them being in the employ of Commanders).
STILL, I gotta add, that a very long line at meal time at a restaurant that's been around for a very long time generally means folks like what they're getting.
SOOOO --- basically, like I led off my original post - if you're a newbie to New Orleans, don't fret about it too much. Pick one and go - not much chance you'll be disappointed.

RE: ,,,best restaurant in your team's locale...
...Mother's is not too bad...but dang it's a confusing place to get your order in...and how they get ANYTHING correct is beyond me... I think I put this somewhere before, but we ate there for lunch before heading to Baton Rouge for the 2000 UAB-LSU game...so...it's a cool place in my book no matter...
Galatoires...we were not as impressed as I would have thought... I think we might have heard too much 'hype', and undershot the expectations... folks swear by it, tho, so it's worth another try (maybe just a bad day or something...) ...what's the top dishes there?
BTW - thanks JD!
