RE: Big Sky expanding to 16? Thinking FBS-lite for football?
As the "Russian novel" (nice analogy CP) unfolded over the past three years, I never argued that Montana, Montana State, Sac State and the other Big Sky schools were making the wrong decision by rejecting the WAC's advances. I only pointed out that by doing so they were committing themselves to an FCS future, because the WAC's demise as a football conference would eliminate any real chance of moving up to FBS for a very long time.

To now see Fullerton suggest there's a way out of the FCS box for some of his members is like watching Baghdad Bob claim that Saddam's victory is imminent. I don't know whether to laugh or just shake my head.

Outside of your personal views/wants, do you think that NDSU would want to join the Big Sky/leave the MVFC? What's NDSU's current view on the MVFC?

I understand but so do Group of 5 schools and we arent happy with the existing system but still have to follow the rules right? So does the Big Sky and Montana. Montana had a WAC invite and turned up their nose and are part of the reason the WAC fell apart because they couldn't find enough replacement teams. Now Montana and the MAC want to change the rules and get the Big Sky reclassified as FBS? Sounds like they think they are special and get to have their cake and eat it to. No thanks. They need to stay FCS. Otherwise, let the Group of 5 change the rules to guarantee we get a playoff spot for the Nat Championship. We got votes. No, on Big Sky.

They could have done that at any time over the past few years by inviting several Big Sky schools to join the WAC while those schools continued to play FCS football -- they would have had the option to move en masse to FBS at any time because the WAC was grandfathered in.

Either the Big Sky schools or the existing WAC schools must have had reasons for not wanting to do that.

Lakes: been bar hopping with the football players again, or helping the with their petition signatures, or scoping out bargains and quick exits with them at Best Buy? Always good to hear from FCS's own version of Nevin Shapiro.

You've been on almost every FBS board (Sun Belt, MAC, MWC, CUSA) begging for an FBS spot for NDSU, but been rejected everywhere. Now when the Big Sky offers you a plan for FBS, you're going to reject it? Doubt your President will if that is the only potential path to FBS available.

Funny how you call every Big Sky location a crap town, but don't see those fan boards totally ecstatic when a Sonic finally comes to town like NDSU's board is. A new fast food franchise comes to Fargo, and its a city holiday? Not exactly sophisticated taste there, buddy. When Grand Forks got a Panera before Fargo, that must have been quite the blow to the ego.

BTW, with your travels mostly on the Fargo to Vegas route, you can be forgiven for not knowing about direct Grand Forks to Denver flights, which allow us to be travel partners with Northern Colorado.

Sounds like some schools want to do something that Montana has turned down time after time.
No use in imagining what they might do when they have consistently not wanted to do that.

The NCAA was investigating Montana for lack of institutional control, plus Montana's former QB was just recently found innocent in a rape trial that was daily headline news in Montana. Those were some rather large barriers for a new President to just charge ahead with FBS and a conference change.

Quote:The NCAA has been investigating the Grizzlies since December of 2011. It’s believed the probe surrounds alleged player benefits at football tailgates -- food and such -- in addition to a more serious charge, which contends that the parents of a football player bailed former teammate Gerald Kemp out of jail after he was arrested in the infamous Taser incident during a fracas with the cops at a party in Missoula in October of 2011.

A big no-no.

Haslam said he “can’t get into the details” of any infractions he suspects the NCAA may levy against the football program, but it won’t come as a surprise if the Griz lose a couple scholarships or are forced to vacate some victories from what was a hugely successful 2011 season.

Up until a few years ago, the WAC thougth they were too good - and then Benson tried to steal MWC teams - which killed the WAC.

Too many of them simply dont have the facilities or financial resources to play at the FBS level.
