I want to know what some of you people's definition of "small town" is, throwing it around when mentioning 100k populated cities.

I think you underestimate the property values. I have been watching the market, hoping to find a retirement home within walking distance of the campus and the Rice Village. Half a million is for a 1940s house south of the campus that needs repair and updating. I think the average value is much higher and probably pushing a million, especially to the north (Southampton) and the west (West University Place).

We win.

I know it's already been posted, but Denton really is something unlike any other.

"Denton's Campus Theatre (off the Denton Courthouse Square) had a world premier hit movie with Warren Beatty in attendance and many other famous visitors thru the years........Among them besides Warren Beatty were John Wayne, Fabian, William Freidkin, Sandra Dee, Michael Pollard, Estelle Parsons, Jay Silverheels, Chill Wills, Arthur Penn, Deborah Walley and B. On October of 1967 the world premiere of "Bonnie and Clyde" was held in the Campus. Much of the film was shot in the North Texas area and the Campus was used as Warner Brothers’ headquarters during that time.

At the premiere, the packed house included not only the stars of the film, but movie critics from all over the U.S. The reviews were outstanding!"

FIU has two major campuses, both located in Miami Dade County, and several small centers located in Miami Dade and Broward Counties in South Florida. The main campus, Modesto Maidique Campus (MMC), is located in West Miami Dade, and the other, Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC), is located in North Miami Beach. MMC is located 12 miles west of downtown Miami, while BBC is located less than a half mile from the beach in Miami Beach.

MMC houses the majority of the programs, housing, event, athletics, and cultural activities, while BBC has several programs (including Hotel and Restaurant Management, Journalism and Mass Communications, and others) housed in that beautiful campus as well., and is the largest branch campus in the Florida State University System with over 7,000 students.

RE: Tell us about your universities location.
Seriously about Charlotte? They want to know what its like now, not what it was like 50, 100, or 150 years ago...

Today, the City of Charlotte is basically one rolling suburb after another in a big circle with a few tall buildings in the middle. I joke it's like a warped record with the Bank of America tower as the spindle in the middle and the 485 outer loop as the city's edge.

The UNCC campus is in a scenic GREEN section of northeast Charlotte, referred to as University City. This section of Charlotte has a population of 155,000 (and would be NC's 3rd largest city if it separated from Charlotte). It's dominated by the University, apartment complexes, town houses, housing developments, several shopping plazas, and three large business/research parks. Plenty of hotel and restaurant chains, parks, a couple golf courses, and yes the seven miles of greenways in UCity are fun and scenic connecting a lot of the neighborhoods and apt complexes to parks and the University.

The west side of campus (and the new football stadium) sit just off North Tryon Street about nine miles northeast of the center of Uptown Charlotte (downtown) at the intersection of Trade and Tryon. The new lightrail mentioned by others will follow N. Tryon up to the University. The campus sits just minutes away from several malls, movie theater complexes, and plenty of entertainment options... personally, I don't like to party where I live and study anyway, I just want to easily get where I can! LOL

Looking southwest from the glass wall of the club and suites area at Apogee Stadium one can easily see a large tree-covered hill or mound (named Pilot Knob, ie, the highest elevation point in Denton County) of which Texas outlaw Sam Bass used to hide from the law. His horse was also called the Denton Mare.

Buying beer and wine is simple. At every gas/grocery/beer joint. Liquor, on the other hand...

Denton is a "damp" county.

Have you always been able to buy beer there? I went to a game there in 2005 and thought I remembered having to go to the next town over to buy even a wine cooler.

Ruston is semi-dry. You can buy beer at any gas station until midnight Monday through Saturday and you can get hard-liquor mixed drinks at restaurants. Liquor stores are techically in Grambling but it is so close it's practically in Ruston.

No, you have not always been able to buy beer here. It used to be completely dry. Now there is a beer barn, beer stores, everything, at the gas station, grocery stores, etc.

You know what doesn't stink about Huntington? The only time I can't buy beer or liquor is after 2AM or on Sunday morning (you can sometimes talk them into the Sunday morning beer, though). Living in a dry town would be downright miserable.
