I don't like any of those names.

They're pretty cheesy. Where The F-ck do we have Aardvarks?...... And WTF is a Buckaroo? ..... Chihuaha's affilating with Taco Bell?

Maybe I'm just pissed about the SPurs.

RE: Triple A team names
Kappy was able to get the GM on the phone at the end of Sports Talk earlier today. Here is my gut feeling. No proof - just a gut feeling. I think they want to name the team the El Paso Sun Dogs. I think they have a bunch of really cool logos and graphics ready to go. I think they lined up four patsies so that Sun Dogs would get voted in. Am I crazy about the name? No. But he made a good point about a ton of successful MiLB teams that have wacky names (in regards to merchandise). He noted that a lot of the traditional names are copyrighted. Just my two cents but I think they are ready to roll with Sun Dogs.

By the way, the term Sun Dog has nothing to do with dogs in the sun. It is a term for the visual ring around the sun. I can see them doing a lot with with that.

Your hunch is valid. It makes sense. I thought the sun dog name was the best also.

Technically however, a sun dog isn't the ring necessarily but the bright spots that appear on either side of the ring.

RE: Triple A team names
Maybe you're right. And these names were set up to make Sun Dogs looks like the most appealing. Sun Dogs is the only one that speaks to me in that bunch.

Could be worse.....If we selected the El Paso Crazies, we'd always lose contests.

Technically, they aren't spots. They are reflections of the sun in the atmosphere.

It will work out for you about as well as it did as when you instructed your wife and child to vote down the props.

"LOL"

That might be the case. I think you are correct in suggesting that it's all fixed anyway.

I didn't say "fixed." It's MountainStar's team. They do not even have to ask for public input on the name.

Today on Sports Talk. Jim Paul ( diablos marketing genius) absolutely ripped Mountain Star for their final five names. He said that they are making a huge mistake.

Also watched KVIA 7 and apparently, the news is that everyone hates the new names.

What are these guys thinking? Do they want to piss everyone off before opening day?

"Uneducated Crazies"

I like that. That's funny

This morning on "Crunch Time" I enjoyed listening to caller after caller, including Mondo the Monster, rip Mountain Star for coming up for these names.

I find it odd that the people who care enough about El Paso sports to call into a radio talk show are in direct opposition to those who care enough about El paso sports to support whatever El Paso can come up with.

Fascinating.

What is odd about it? It is quite the norm. People write letters, call radio stations, and send emails when they are unhappy. That is normal. People who are happy and content usually do not kick and scream and throw fits.

What is odd is that those who are unhappy take the time to call radio stations, send emails and actively protest. But on forums such as this, you tend to get the opposite people. Those who are generally happy with whatever we get.

I'm sure there is some sort of study in there somewhere.

This is a fan driven forum. Far different than social media sites, message boards, topix, letters to the editor.

Yeah I guess you are correct. I never really thought of it in that way. Perhaps this is I am not well liked in this forum where as in other forums, heated discussion is par for the course.

You're last post may have just made me realize something.

People in this forum don't care to discuss the pros and cons of sports but rather simply cheer for their favorite schools?

Is that about right?
