The bottom of the Big 12 (Colorado/Baylor) was making $7 million from conference distributions just a few years ago and Washington State was making $2-3 million from the Pac 12 who had a more incentive based allocation plan than the Big 12. WSU was only doing a million or so better than the MWC schools. BE schools were $2-$3 million. Now its $15-$25 million a year difference between the gang of 5 and the AQ 5.
Amazing...schools like WSU in the Pac 12 & Texas Tech in the Big XII-(Nothing against those school just making a point) are going to be making going forward $15-20 Milllion more per year then a school like UConn which has a higher National Bramd and only because of conference...
Schools like Louisville who were begging anyone with a pulse for a power 4 conference invite should not throw stones. Louisville would love to have our support and better yet play in the State of Texas. None of that happened because our TV partners valued West Virginia and their ability to escape a dying, worthless conference over a former CUSA school.

Texas Tech makes more money on our Tier 3 TV/Radio rights than most members of the old BE/new BE make on their Tier 1 TV rights. Sad but true and that is why Louisville begged for an escape and why UC and UConn are still begging.
All true...but Louisville still has an higher Athletic Budget...high profit margin while operating with the puny BIG EAST Media $$$ ...only Texas in the Big XII has a larger athletic budget and our profit margin was still over $7 Million...and we are not even going to talk about on the Field/Court Success.

Luckily for Louisville we landed in a league going forward that is very likely will be making more $$$$ then any league not named the SEC/B1G. So thank you Maryland and the B1G for opening up a spot and thank you ACC for taking us. 04-cheers

Win a BCS Bowl Game or 2 and win a National Title or 3 in a Revenue Sport and then you can get back to us...07-coffee3
You've still got one BCS bowl to go to catch up to WVU, Maize. And while we may not have a national championship in a revenue sport, we do have 15 in rifle. So any detractors better walk carefully... 05-mafia

I will say Louisville made out. Thank goodness you escaped the sinking ship before it went down. Otherwise you'd be sitting with UC, USF, and UConn wondering what the hell just happened...

Any life raft in a storm, you know... 04-cheers

1. Bit you know I have a lot of respect for Mountaineer Football, just got a little annoyed @ the backhand from someone who's programs really haven't done much except be in a good geographic spot.

2. I know, we caught the last lifeboat out of that sinking ship...

We've got no problem, Maize. We never did. I just felt like 05-stirthepot a little. I've got nothing better to do right now. My DirecTV is on the fritz, and the Mountaineer's 3rd baseball game against Oklahoma doesn't start until 1pm...

BTW, did you notice WVU's baseball team is currently tied for 2nd in the B12, one game out of first place? Not too shabby for a team picked to finish last in the conference... COGS

That is amazing and it looks like you are going to the post season...the Big XII is a very good Baseball League.

Now just fix that damn defense in Football...with Dana you're gonna score points regardless if Geno and the WR are in the NFL/Rams.

BTW, if Geno was really texting and twitting during his NFL Interviews, he has no one to blame for his fall in the draft but himself.

The defense should be much improved this year. IMO a big part of the problem with the pass defense was the soft zone DeForest employed. They'd often be 10 yards or more off the line of scrimmage, allowing the receivers to meet up with the DBs in full stride. DeForest also wanted the D-line to slide sideways after the snap. Patterson keeps the DBs in fairly tight coverage, and is allowing the D-line to attack. That should pay off down the road...

As for all the reports on Geno, until I see a name credited to all these anonymous reports, I'm calling BS. Anyone with any credibility would allow their name to be used, and since nobody has come forward to make that claim, I'm not paying it much attention...

If I remember rightly, they said similar things about Cam Newton, Vince Young, and several other black QBs. Hell, several NFL scouts thought Terry Bradshaw was retarded, because of his southern speech and folksy way of speaking. We all know how that turned out. The NYC media even raked Joe Namath over the coals when he first came to NYC. It was only after he won the Super Bowl that he became Broadway Joe, with everybody loving him...

Had Geno been drafted in any other city, this wouldn't be such an issue. But he got drafted by the Jets, who are located in the world's media center, where tabloid journalism rules. If he experiences any level of success in NYC, all this will be forgotten...

I don't expect much success from him until they get him a decent O-line, and some receivers to throw to. But that's another story...

Can't disagree with your post...but ask yourself why TT is making $$. Put Texas and Oklahoma in the AAC and Houston or SMU could say the same thing: we make "more money on our Tier 3 TV/Radio rights than most members of the old [B12/new B8] on their Tier 1 TV rights. Sad but true...."

The Bowl Tie-In is nice but in the end the landscape is not the Orange, Sugar or even Rose Bowls but to be in the 4 School Playoffs. The Bowls will have pretty much the same schools....Sugar Bowl the #2 or 3 SEC School...the Orange Bowl the #3 or 4 SEC School or the #2-3 B1G School or Notre Dame.

2. The National Media sentiment is shifting but it doesn't really matter...the Pac 12, Big XII & ACC when all $$$$ is handed out to the schools going forward will be making roughly the same...the two lead dogs are as Arute put it in the order are the SEC & B1G....he just slide the ACC @ into the 4th spot.

In the long term, I expect the Pac-12 to out earn everyone because they own 100% of their network. The B1G will be #2 because they own 50% of their network and the ACC and SEC will have to take whatever they can get from ESPN because ESPN owns all the content and 100% of the networks (assuming for the ACC). The Big 12 minus Texas will be lagging behind.

Good points...but in regards to the Big XII I would add (Texas & Oklahoma will be fine, everyone else could be lagging behind)...I just find it as more and more details come out with the GoR & other arrangements I understand completely why FSU, NC State & Clemson agreed to stay put and end the speculation. The ACC has some very good deals moving forward that can and will make everyone including the World Wide Leader some extra cash.
