Citadel a Sun Belt candidate?
With the support of the State of South Carolina and the City of Charleston it may be doable. For future strength of schedule for the playoffs it may make sense to have an in state fbs rival.

RE: Citadel a Sun Belt candidate?
No. The Citadel has 2,000 students. They aren't big enough to support FBS football.

The Citadel would have to make some dramatic changes in its institutional priorities in order to compete at the FBS level. It's hard enough for them to compete at the FCS level.

The Citadel has their 21,000 seat football stadium, and is probably #3 in football support in South Carolina, but other than baseball, all of their sports would have to drastically improve.

Even in the Charleston area, they are the #3 school behind South Carolina and Clemson.

If they did move up I could see them having the same problem as Georgia Tech in the fact that they would never become a common mans team in SC. The Citadel has a lot of power at the State Gov level to make the move but I highly doubt it ever happens.
