St. John's Signs with Under Armour
http://www.rumbleinthegarden.com/st-john...rmour-nike

St. John's has signed with Under Armour today once their Nike contract had run out. St. John's has been with Nike since the changed their name to the Red Storm in the early 90's.

I'm not a fan if this move. I'd much rather be with the best than some upstart who tries to hard.

Uh, you don't pay them for uniforms, they provide them to you. With that you become their guinea pig and walking billboard. They also get the rights to produce apparel for sale.

Where did I say the school was paying? I was referring to the profits the company gets by selling your merchandise. The company pays the school to be able to use their product and they outfit the sports teams as well as get a monopoly on merchandising as you stated.

As a catholic institution, I have always been iffy with some of these contracts with some of these companies, companies whose reputation is not exactly "mission" oriented, i.e. sweat shops, unsafe factorys, profit first mentality. I'm sure every company has it's faults but Nike is infamous for this but maybe it's because they've been in the game a lot longer.

I would be very happy if Georgetown drops Jordan Brand and DePaul drops NIke and signs with an American company that still manufacturers their products here in the states. One that comes to mind is an up-and-comer like Eagle USA. Of course, young 5 star athletes probably wouldn't be attracted to that.

Well when you say underbid and sending money to Nike. That pretty heavily implies that we would be paying them.

*They-referring to Under Armour underbidding Nike thus getting the contract.
...and all that Nike Money you guys have been sending-referring to the profits they have been making off the St Johns name.

I get it, it's a misunderstanding.

Their Bball line is pretty nice. I blame Maryland's Athletic Department for approving those uniforms but as long as your AD doesn't give the green line to Under Armour to be "creative" you wont have any problems. Here is a few uniforms.

Anything is better than that Addidas crap....Also, just wondering, anyone know how merchandising will work in the Big East? In the past, Creighton has been behind the times when it comes to basketball specific merchandise like jersey's etc....last couple years, they have been able to sell home Creighton nike jerseys, hopefully now in the Big East, merchandise will be more accessible. I'm hoping to get a Creighton road jersey with a Big East logo on it.

You are aware JT Jr. is on the Nike board of directors. We aren't dropping Jordan or Nike anytime soon.

I stand corrected. DePaul has been the largest for the past 15 years according to their wesite.
