A quick look @ the future of KSU Athletic Facilities
Courtesy of Dave Carducci for 2 of the 3 links and Allen Moff of the RC for the 3rd link:

https://twitter.com/CarducciKSU/status/3...50/photo/1 (relocated/upgraded softball stadium next to baseball stadium, with indoor training/hitting facility)

http://www.recordpub.com/sports/2013/04/...r-on-may-3 (locker room expansion @ field house for track & field, field hockey, women's soccer)

https://twitter.com/CarducciKSU/status/3...65/photo/1 (new mens basketball/womens basketball/wrestling practice facility, which will be where the gymnastics room is currently)

The questions become, what happens to the area where the KSU Softball stadium/field is today? Where does Gymnastics get relocated to? Which direction are they building out the fieldhouse for all of the new locker rooms?

The softball field moving is a must and should never have been built in front of the stadium. The risk to cars is so high without a fence to stop the balls going on to the road. Also will help attendance with spill over from baseball.

And as it presently exist, it is a distraction to Dix Stadium. You are right, it should never have been there.

With all the land behind the stadium next to the soccer field, practice field or even next to the field house parking lot all would've been better spots.

Last plan I saw had the new fieldhouse locker rooms on the South Side of the fieldhouse (towards the parking lot)

Here are more pictures and a little more insight as to where the new locker rooms/facility expansion will be: http://www.recordpub.com/sports/2013/05/...er-project

Even more info from the Record-Courier, please look @ the right where there is a 5 minute video that clearly points out where all of the new facilities will be laid out: http://www.recordpub.com/news%20local/20...g-campaign

Wow that video shows a lot of things that are changing!! I love the addition of the outdoor track to the sports complex but I do wonder how they will replace the parking? Also like that all teams will have a place to call their own for locker space and coach offices that are AT where they practice. After all of this is completed the only three facilities that will lack the title of best in the MAC will be Dix Stadium, the golf course (I would love to get a tournament or two each year) and the MACC. With the renovations to both the MACC and Dix getting a bump up the list respectively.

The university golf course is about as good as it can get, and that isn't very good, of course. But Windmill Lakes is an excellent course and a real test for collegiate players from the tips. They have hosted a few events there, but there just aren't many open dates once the weather gets nice. Maybe they could have one in Sept., but October gets dicey with the weather.

After watching the video again something I noticed that might not be a problem, depending on scheduling, is that the softball field is really close to the baseball field. With the angle that they show foul balls could easily go from the softball game into the outfield of the baseball field. It doesn't mention distances so it is hard to say but seems like it may be a better idea to spin the stadium so the first base line runs alongside the new building instead of the third base line.

A little OT, but James Harrison said today he spends $400K to $600K on his body a year. I guess we now know why he wanted the Weight Room named after him.

I'm kind of the same way only on a smaller scale. I spend about $4-$6 a year on my body.

Did anyone see the following line item from the KSU Trustee Meeting Notes?

Quote:The design and construction of an indoor practice facility for men's baseball and women's softball was authorized.

I'm ALL for improved and updated facilities. But the continuing suggestion that an "indoor" practice facility would have any correlation on wins and losses/recruits is simply a fallacy. For two years now Bowling Green has had a fingerprint-activated 24-hour practice arena in a sparkling new facility and in those two years the Falcons have lost opening round tournament games at home. At this time next year they'll have a new head coach.

Lets stop calling our lack of a practice court some antiquated roadblock to future success and call it what it truly is/was: an inconvenience.

I kind of thought this was a move in the direction of making us competitive with teams from southern states instead of giving us an edge over other MAC schools. I think we're too the point with baseball where winning the MAC isn't the ultimate goal for each season, not that it's a given by any means.

I don't know much about BG's coaches but I feel we have the best coaching staff in the MAC and giving them more tools to work with can only help.
