New Coach, No Scholarship
Interesting situaton at Western Michigan. Do recruits commit to the school or the coaching staff?

RE: New Coach, No Scholarship
I think it is not that big of a deal for a new coach to pull a scholarship. But if he really waited until only a couple weeks before signing day, then that is bush league. And with Fleck saying that players commit to the coaching staff - that is dumb to say. Even though I bet most might commit to a coaching staff instead of the school, I feel like that is not something you want to promote about your program.

Fleck was hired on December 18th and actually started on January 3rd (due to commitments with the Tampa Bay Bucs). That's less than 5 weeks before signing day right there. Then factor in the dead period starting on January 6th... not providing excuses, but putting the timeline into reality.

Also the writer got his dates wrong with Deshai Powell and Derrick Dunlap. Their scholarships were pulled by the former staff. He is correcting that and publishing a revised version tomorrow.

But I agree, removing Faunce's scholarship especially, might not have been a smart move considering the perennial powerhouse that is Warren Central. But that's Fleck's choice.

He 'got his' when 4 kids that "committed" signed with other schools on 2/6/13 (Kendall Moore, Devante Lee, Todney Evans, and Daryl Chestnut). So it goes both ways. The reality of recruiting. Each side learned a tough lesson.

I have the luck to be around athletes on a regular basis. I will definitely tell football players not to trust this guy.
