RE: Quincy Taylor leaving UAB
What bugs me most is the lack of info. Usually when the news is reported, a reason is given. Why is he transferring? If we had more than one media member who cared a crap about UAB, the answer would be reported, if anything, to get the scoop. With only one reporter, he reports exactly what the coaches want reported, or he's too busy with the second biggest sport in the city, spring football.

If NC $tate is still involved, somebody will need to bring a checkbook if we are to get him.

Nah, just have to tell him to google "Steele" "girlfriend" and "golf course" together as search terms.

This is bad news. I don't care how you spin it.

I think MB is spot on here. Like QB in football there are no guarantees about a PG in basketball. Everything runs through this position. The timing of this is surprising as it would have made more sense for him to transfer last year. The pressure from Hoopy's potential could have made sitting out a transfer year while rehabbing a ACL tear look much more appealing. Now he is fully healthy, much improved and was the only experienced PG on roster. This isn't a make or break move but its bad news anyway you spin it.

It would be worse news if we didn't have surrounding players now that could play.

We are ok.

Right. No team really needs a point guard anyway. Especially one who has logged so many minutes. Everything is great. We have six, maybe seven players who are coming in who have never played D1 ball. Who needs an experience player who can get them the ball.

I love how everyone thinks of this as having no more effect than it as changing the color socks they wear.

As for the new players coming in, I am not as convinced as some of you are sight unseen. There will be a transition period. Hopefully they will transition quickly, or we may be looking at our third straight losing season.

It's never good news when a good Blazer transfers. This makes me sad.

As for timing, not sure many programs would have given him a scholarship last year given the severity of the knee injury. Now he's proven that he's recovered.

Also, Q was on a strong upward curve as the season ended. I expected a very strong senior season from him.

This transfer is by no means a good thing.

And yes, like Memphis Blazer I remember all the pre-season lottery picks of the past: Pat Craft, De'Shante Foreman, Mark Kimbrough etc. etc.

+++++++++1

Has everyone else forgotten Q was coming off an injury that takes almost an entire year to fully recover from? He was primed for a huge senior season and this news is terrible. We have enough new Blazers coming in; I wanted Q's veteran leadership.

Were gonna be that strange combination of very old and very young next year. The bipolar comments of this thread kind of show how unknown next season is for us. We were counting on starting seniors with backup freshman. Now we'll start 4 seniors with a freshman pg.

I think I would prefer inexperienced players who are better to experienced players who are not as good.

No one is effing panicking. We are just not acting like it is no big deal and he won't be missed like some of you are.

If he is leaving on his own or for personal reasons, so be it. If he was run off, which seems to be the case or the reason he was leaving would have been reported, then he would have been shown the door because we are gambling that his replacement will be instantly better. If that doesn't turn out to be true, then I equate this episode with Davis running off Reggie Huffman to free up a scholarship for Armon Bassett.

No one has a crystal ball to determine which is which.

I would prefer to have experienced, but less talented players to carry the team until those inexperienced players gain experience and prove themselves.

RE: Quincy Taylor leaving UAB
By no means am I hitting the panic button. I'm super excited about our future and I have 100% confidence in our head coach. With that being stated I think it's silly to act as though Quincy and other returning players are talentless. Without question they were missing some pieces last year. The team also was largely inexperienced and had a short bench. As 58-56 already stated Quincy was on an upswing at the end of the season. Maybe it was QT finally reaching 100% or the tutoring of a new staff (most likely both). The most important aspect is that the team improved when QT did.

I think the new recruiting class is looking great but it's doubtful they will all be playing at their highest level immediately. None of them have been through the fire of a college season. It's essentially two seasons (non-conference and CUSA). They need guys to help guide them through those things who have already been through the waters. Again, I'm excited about the future and expecting a big jump next year but having QT around would have been a plus. We need the returning players experience and we need to FINALLY have depth on our bench.
