I don't believe this was a sudden decision.

So who will play pg besides Dayshawn Watkins?

Denzel Watts can handle the ball and probably is a little better outside shooter than Watkins. This is probably why we've offered Chad Frazier. It appears that he and Freeman both have offers for the 2013 class. I wonder if we still have one available spot or if someone else is going to leave.

I wouldn't go quite that far. He was serviceable, adequate, steady, etc., but lacks the ability to do the one thing that PG's MUST be able to do: drive to the hoop and then either score, get fouled, or dish.

Anywho, best wishes to QT. He seems like a good guy who will do well in life.

RE: Quincy Taylor leaving UAB
While I hate to see him go we did not have a true point guard last year. I don't know how many times many of us said it during the season. I lost count. As stated above he was serviceable. While I hate to lose experienced depth Q was not going to be the starting point guard next season. I saw him spelling at the point and playing some two. How many times did we say at least two of the newcomers will be starting next season?

While you always hate to see a descent player leave let's not forfeit the season yet. How about we let the coaching staff finish recruiting and see how the roster shakes out. Can't wait for practice to start.

So we go from "we don't have any depth" to Quincy Taylor freaking out about playing time with one recruiting class? Did I miss something? Let's not get too excited.

I have no info, but it wouldn't surprise me if Q received a little push toward the door.

I liked QT's style on the court, and he was improving. I wish him well.

We will miss his 3-pt shooting, but QT rarely got to the FT line and just couldn't penetrate into the lane. I pray his replacement is a huge upgrade.

Just because he's leaving doesn't mean he didnt want to be here. Sometimes people are faced with a choice of what they want vs what's in their best interest.

I don't understand how some of you can't be worried about that. All last season, we heard don't worry, once Hoopy is eligible, he'll take over for Q. Well, that never happened. Now, we have 2 freshmen who we've never seen that we are expecting to come in and run this offense? I'm worried. PG has been an issue for a few years now, and now we are starting over again.

We have not had a point guard and now we have one true and one that can play point. I actually feel better about our situation than the last two seasons. We are also not finished recruiting. Barring injury Watkins will be a four year starter at the point.

Then why wasn't it mentioned already? I doubt bad journalism was not the factor in why it wasn't mentioned.

Just like Hoopy was going to be the starter going forward this year?

RE: Quincy Taylor leaving UAB
I doubt it was his decision. We've been looking for another guard for quite a while. A senior transferring for his last year is not what a player normally wants to because teams are hesitant to bring in someone and have him sit for a year to only play one year. Perhaps he can graduate in the SUmmer and be eligible right away. He had his limitations but he was an experienced guard who could play the point. As it stands we may have two frosh PGs which is not normally a good thing. Remember AJ's frosh year - showed promise but if he had to play as the only PG the inconsistency would have caused us problems. Add to that he possibility hat his backup may also be a frosh and there are legitimate concerns about the "quarterback" position on the court. I think the staff is also looking for a JC PG and, if that is the case, who leaves next?

I can't help it if Hoopy didn't do what he was supposed to do in practice and watched his pt dwindle to nothing.

If some of you guys want to go into panic mode have at it. I just see zero reason to and in fact I am excited about next season. Practice can't get here quick enough.

No one has to leave. We have one open scholarship to give. (Q) that's why I said we are not through recruiting.

If we get Freeman(fingers crossed) and the staff still wants a JC PG (we supposedly offered one last week who is also a one of the top JCs available) we'll be one over.

Freeman is a long shot. better cross more than your fingers. I do like our chances with Frazier and then the complaint will be lack of big men....LOL
